My son has always been a great sleeper, and even enjoyed going to sleep and was so easy to put to sleep. A few months ago we officially got rid of the pacifier and it went well. The only thing is my son was having a hard time getting to sleep and then staying asleep. Because it was during the holidays and we were traveling a lot his schedule was way off and even though we were getting naps in it felt like we were getting the day started late, then a late nap, therefore a late bedtime and so on. I feel like my husband and I have had no time to ourselves bc also when our son was waking up at night I was just bringing him back to bed with us. I finally decided to stop being lazy and was rocking him back to sleep every night. It was taking hours and I was loosing my mind. He had no trouble falling asleep on me in the rocking chair but the transferring from my arms to crib was not working. We had been putting off transferring him out of the crib for when he was sleeping through the night but it just wasn’t working. One night I was struggling and just converted his nugget couch into a temporary bed and he instantly loved it. Once asleep I can transfer him no problem. If he wakes up at night which has been EXTREMELY less it takes like 3 minutes to get him back down. His naps have even been longer. The issue is getting him to sleep. I get it we didn’t sleep train and I let him fall asleep on me and now I’m paying the price. The issue is he doesn’t want to be rocked to sleep he wants to lay in the “new cool bed” but all he does is move and play in the new cool bed. Then when I try to rock him to sleep he fights me and gets extremely upset. I feel like I’m forcing my kid to go to sleep every day/night. THEN our schedule was so pushed back with him taking longer to put down & day light savings that I was having to wake him up every nap/morning bc he was sleeping too late. One day I just let him sleep in late and then didn’t let him nap and put him to bed at an earlier time to reset his schedule. Well he still doesn’t want to sleep. Idk what to do! It’s too early to drop naps! He won’t make it through the day. Not sure what to do. We do have a nap/ bedtime routine we have always done but I was thinking about making it longer to really get him in the mood. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks if you’ve read this far!

What’s your daily schedule? Wake time, nap time and length, and bedtime? It’s possible you may be shooting for too much sleep in total and just need a schedule adjustment.
Well things have been kind of crazy so the schedule has been later but we do wake windows of about 5 hours, but I feel like the evening stretch is always a little longer sometimes 7 hours. I do need to be better about a set schedule. Since I tried adjusting him he is waking up about 7:30am, napping around 1, taking about an hour to an hour and a half nap, then would be going to bed around 8 but is taking so long to go down since we took the pacifier away.
So last night he didn’t go down until 9:30pm, then woke up at 7:40am, then wouldn’t take a nap. So now I’m going to put him down at 7:30-8 and hope that he sleeps until 7am? Is that too much?

I would definitely see if you can get on more of a schedule, it does really help some kids. It doesn’t need to be exact but like waking within a 30 minute period each morning helps set their circadian rhythm.
Average sleep needs for 1-2 year olds is 11-14 hours per day. So it looks like you were aiming for more than 13 so it’s possible your son doesn’t need quite that much sleep anymore.
My son wakes around 6:45 (we would wake him just past 7 if needed)
Nap is 1-3, give or take, but don’t let him sleep more than a few minutes past that
Bedtime around 9pm
So he only sleeps about 11.5 hours per day but that’s enough sleep for him.
thank you! Maybe he is getting too much sleep. It makes me feel batter because I’ve been worried he wasn’t sleeping enough.
