SD 2 year old

Hello everyone our 2 year old is being referred for S&L therapy by his nursery we’ve been told it’s a 12 month waiting list for someone to assess him and see if he needs it
I just wondered what can we do to support him at home with his Speech Delay.
We read stories all the time and sing songs just wondering what else we can do.
He has a dummy which is for sleep time only and he’s definitely starting to wean off it
Many thanks x

Play is one of the greatest forms of learning to communicate. ‘Parallel play’ by playing with your child’s toys even if it appears they aren’t watching you, they’ll get intrigued by what you’re doing, e.g play with ‘little people’ as they can ‘talk’ and then eventually your child will mirror that and use those words in play (e.g) making a toy person walk and saying ‘i am walking’, build up to adding more actions such as building a house out of building blocks and have the person cook etc, at first you feel really daft playing by yourself with your toddlers toys but it does work, even if it’s just 5 minutes every other day.

Using words they can repeat ‘brush my teeth’ ‘i am eating’ as they’re likely to repeat phrases, so them literally saying ‘brush your teeth’ wouldn’t make sense for example .

adding words, apple > red apple > red juicy apple. train > moving train, helps build up sentences

Buying toys that are linked to education, like pretend food for role play, 2 player games to learn to take it in turns, drawing, flash cards, building toys. Limiting screen time so they can mirror face to face engagement

Doing games where you are practising exercising the mouth muscles like making snake noises ect. Breaking up words by clapping el-e-pant. Blowing bubbles. Games like putting items into a pillowcase and guessing what it is ie ball, bear, doll.

Sorry to jump on this post but my boy (3) says all the words but can’t converse. He just echos 99% of the time (he has been referred for speech and trying to get him referred for an autism assessment) he can read but I can’t get him to converse! We watch and play! He hears us talking all the time! He doesn’t really watch any children’s tv, which may hinder him in some ways- he just isn’t interested in anything that isn’t numbers or letters!

When do things get easier?

As we entered the 9-12 month stage, my son started crawling and pulling himself up. He also became more clingy and does not play alone, still doesnt sleep through the night, and this week has been sick (so EVERYTHING amplified). I am tired and overwhelmed. Please lie and tell me things get better. 🥺

Colostrum storing?

Has anyone successfully extracted colostrum before the baby’s born? Apparently it gets produced from 16w pregnant and you can start storing it in the freezer but I’m 34w looking at my nipples and the syringes on amazon wondering how it works?? Like what did you use and did it hurt? 🥲

4 month bed time

What time do you put your babies to bed?
What time do you start your 'routine?'
My LO currently goes to bed around 10.30pm, and I know i need to start bringing it forward. Everytime ive tried, it takes longer for my LO to settle.
We are exclusively breastfeeding. Any advice Mamas?

Self settling

Any tips or advice of how to teach 6.5month old to self settle? I’m up multiple times in the night to cuddle her back to sleep and put the dummy in. I understand she will wake up and want a cuddle etc but any tips on self settling would be appreciated 🥰

Baby losing weight

Hi all, it's been a long time since I had a baby (my son is 15!). My daughter is 10 days old and was 9lb born, she has since lost weight at every appointment and is at a 12% loss. I am breast feeding every two hours for over an hour and topping her up every feed. I pump and can get 60ml in 10 minutes so I know my supply is okay. Anyone had this before? Can give me some tips? I currently feel like I'm letting my baby down.
