What gestation would it be abdominal. I’m a bigger lady so to speak. I don’t want an internal due to my last loss being pretty much when I got home from an internal (maybe a coincidence) but don’t want to risk it.

It might also depend on where your placenta is. If you have anterior placenta you might even have your 12 weeks scan internally. But otherwise I think it’s about 12 weeks or so, as they want to see well. I did see some having abdominal already at 8, so I might be wrong :-)

Hiya, I have a high bmi myself and also had an anterior placenta last pregnancy, and I had a pretty clear abdominal scan at 10 weeks! Haven't had any scans yet this pregnancy, I'm only 8 weeks and have chosen to wait until the 12 week NHS scan this time round 😊 X

I’m a UK18/20 and only had abdominal ultrasounds in my first pregnancy, also with an anterior placenta.
I also had extra growth scans and never had any issues. They did have to send me for a walk to move baby once but that wasn’t due to my size.
Just a heads up, they will probably write something on your scan notes about “reduced visibility due to high maternal BMI” but nobody ever mentioned it as a problem.
