My baby is 20 weeks old and I just feel like every time we try to leave the house we get it completely wrong. He is breast fed but won’t eat unless he is ready for a nap, not sure why but literally will not nurse unless he is sleepy so find it really hard to get him to eat or sleep whilst we’re out because he likes to feed to sleep and contact nap (who ever heard of a breastfed baby who doesn’t just nurse on demand!!🙄)
He does sometimes sleep in the pram on a walk without a feed but never for long. He won’t sleep in his pram if we’re in town or at the shops, I think he gets too distracted and we end up having to get him out of his pram and just carry him whilst walking round (I do also baby wear but he doesn’t sleep in the carrier either so won’t stay in there for long)
He doesn’t take a dummy either so if he’s crying in the pram the only way to soothe him is to pick him up which is fine but not ideal really.
I am just feeling in such a rut, I have hardly left the house since having him because I dread going out because he never seems to be in a good mood. Every time we do leave the house it’s a disaster and I am on eggshells rushing round to get things done before he starts screaming. I just want to be able to sit in a cafe and relax without having to rush home because my baby won’t settle!!
I just want to be one of those mums who I see out and about with their prams bimbling round the shops without a crying baby, being stress free just enjoying their maternity leave but I don’t think I ever will be. Don’t know how I keep getting it so wrong or how to fix it. Can never seem to time it right or help him stay content.
Sorry for long post just needed a rant x

Are you comfortable feeding him in public or if not would he take a bottle? Its maybe a case of you just have to keep doing it and getting used to it.
Could you bring toys to occupy him if you're in a coffee shop?

Well - my baby was like this too and to be honest maternity leave never felt as maternity leave😂. Have you tried bf him in public ? So maybe next time - try when he is about to have a nap to bf in a coffee place for example.
I am comfortable feeding outside/in public but he just will not do it unless the setting is right ie he is sleepy and about to nap. Otherwise he will literally throw himself backwards and cry if he isn’t ready for it and I don’t want that to happen in public, I’m used to it and fine with it but no one else would be. Not sure if it’s a sleep regression or his age, he is just so distracted and unless we are at home he won’t eat or sleep properly.

It is a phase - my son had it too but I learnt they are smart than we think 😂 - there were days that we were out as we needed to be and there was no choice and he accepted that if he wants to get full - he needs to eat in other circumstances 😂
