How do people get past the stage where newborns will only sleep on your chest? my boy is almost 4 weeks old and still won’t sleep anywhere else, i’m a single mum and unable to pass him to someone else so i can sleep, meaning im falling asleep with him on my chest which is not safe and im terrified, i try put him in his crib multiple times a night even when he’s fast asleep and he will always wake up and cry, thinking of giving him a dummy to see if it helps

I think trying a pacifier is a good idea if he likes to suck and it might help comfort him when not held. Try putting him down about 20 minutes after he falls asleep on you because then he’ll be ending active sleep and getting into deep sleep and woke wake as easily. Slowly put his butt down first, then feet, then back and arms, and lastly his head

I’m a solo mum so I absolutely feel your pain. My first would not sleep in the cot he’d always wake within minutes. We ended up cosleeping because if you follow the rules (Safe Sleep 7 rules for cosleeping) and prepare your sleep space it is much safer than falling asleep with bub lying on you or holding bub on sofa etc.
The cuddle curl saved us!

I also kept trying the cot every now and then. My first always hated it. My second slept in the side car cot pretty well but had his clingy phases.

Have you tried a swaddle x

Chest sleeping is safe if you are positioned correctly https://www.instagram.com/p/CwVmwblvlPB/?igsh=MnZ3YXBuMG12MTBz

I recommend Co sleeping following safe sleep 7 as suggested above. Much sadder than you falling asleep and you dropping your baby. I Co slept for 6 months until he was old enough to do some sleep training. It took about 4 months to be able to even put him down in hot cot without waking but then he would wake after 30 mins. He sleeps well in his own cot now thank goodness

We used a top we wore that day for them to lie on when asleep on bed and then into cot. Worked a treat
ahhh we’re in the same boat, if you find anything that works, please share 😭
would you recommend to give him the pacifier while still on my chest or only if he wakes up when i put him down?

I would put a shirt or garment you’ve worn (but don’t wash it) in the cot with baby so your scent is near this gives baby a sense that they are still with you. Maybe get your beat recorded inside a stuffed toy like at build a bear if there’s one near you. There are also types of swaddles you can do that make baby feel like they are still with you.
I hope you get the rest you need and deserve. Keep up the great work mama you are doing so well 🤗
