Debris in amniotic fluid

Had anyone had this? Had my 20 week scan yesterday and we saw quite a lot of debris floating around. Sonographer wasn't worried and said all normal but after digging around on the Internet it says could be an infection

Hi yes I have had this in a detailed anatomy scan with a consultant, they advised it was either due to bleeding (or a number of other things which myself and my husband are now being tested for). So the consultant doing my scan said the debris can be due to an early bleed in pregnancy, even implantation bleeding or a bleed you may not know occured. If you are concerned you could ask for a second opinion with the consultant rather than a sonographer? In my case I know I have had bleeding one week before my scan and on multiple occasions. Happy to help if you have other questions, mine was a bit more complex than just debris in amniotic fluid so just giving you the brief breakdown. X

@Lucy ah ok that's interesting. I may mention it to my midwife. I haven't had any physical bleeding during my pregnancy. Thanks for letting me know x

No problem. So I am having additional testing because my baby has unfortunately ingested a small amount of the debris and been diagnosed with echogenic bowel. I'm told in most cases this amounts to literally nothing but for me they have done a TORCH screen which is screening to see if I've been exposed to 5 different infections in pregnancy (which I don't think I have) and then myself and my husband have to have genetic testing for cystic fibrosis. It's all been quite worrying but I'm told it's all precautions just to make sure the baby is definitely ok. But in terms of them swallowing amniotic fluid this isn't harmful to them at all, just because mine seems to have blood in it which is what has shown up in his belly. Hope this helps as I say bit of a different situation to yours but you could definitely raise it if worried. Nothing worse than googling x
