I’m currently unable to actually breastfeed right now because of my daughter being in the Nicu so I am pumping as much as I can. My nipples are so swollen and cracked and even been bleeding, I have been using the Lanolin nipple cream but it doesn’t seem to help. Anyone else know of anything else that could help??

Moist wound healing - try some expressed milk into silver nipple cups and that should prevent them from cracking/drying out between pumps. Do you know why your nipples are damaged to help prevent further damage and help with healing?

Breast milk has loads of healing properties so after you pump I would rub some breast milk on them, also don’t use soap on that area when you shower as that can cause more dryness

Try and get a pump that fits better! It shouldn’t be painful and definitely shouldn’t make you bleed. Start by measuring your nipple and making sure it isn’t too small!

this is my 4th baby and all of them have been breastfed at some point and I never had this issue. I wanted to see what other moms have to say cuz I can’t get ahold of the doctor til tomorrow. I’m calling the doctor to see what they have to say but didn’t know if maybe there was something I could do til then.

Thank you, I didn’t even think to try that. I would use it to help with ear infections when my older 3 kids were still breastfeeding and it worked for that. I just got done pumping and put some on so we will see how that works. I’ve heard of soap doing that and I never used soap on that area while I was breastfeeding

the pump I got through my insurance from the hospital wasn’t working right so I have to see why that happened. I pulled out my old pump and have been using that one, I never had that issue when I used it almost 5 years ago. I had the lactation nurse at the hospital help me make sure it fit right and it’s still a perfect fit.

it could be an ill fitting pump or suction too strong - I hope you manage to heal quickly, breastfeeding/pumping is so challenging!

I’m wondering if the suction is to strong.. and thank you, I’m trying this is the most difficult I’ve had breastfeeding because my daughter is in the nicu and has barely learned the sucking motion due to issues with her brain so I’m always pumping so she can get it through her feeding tube

Use your own milk, ditch the lanolin and try to get some sun on ur nipples...free the tatas!!! It will help you heal faster

Pumping is so challenging. I had to do it for a couple of weeks whilst my nipples healed from my baby’s tongue tie and it was so difficult. Ask in the hospital for some help as they are the experts but keep trying, any amount of breastmilk is so beneficial for baby!

I have been using my milk the last couple of times I’ve pumped and so far it has helped

I have to call and talk to the lactation nurse tomorrow. Some of the people on here have said about using my own breast milk so I’ve tried that the last couple times. So far it seems to be working

I’m glad that’s working for you! Good luck with everything
