Hi all,
I’m a FTM and my LO is 10 weeks old on Wednesday and I can’t get him to sleep in the next to me crib.
I have to go to bed with him and feed and cuddle him to sleep. He sleeps in bed with me (obviously on a flat surface with no cushions/duvet etc.).
Every time I go to transfer him to the next to me he wakes up! Sometimes he sleeps for 5 mins then wakes crying!
I’m EB and it is so easy to feed him during the night (he wakes up at midnight) but I’m getting worried now that he doesn’t had a routine and I can’t spend any time with my partner!
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
TIA x

Do you have a moses basket? I found putting the moses basket in the next to me crib worked and she slept 😊

Hi. My lo is 6 months old now, and was like this until recently. I’d go to bed with her and she would sleep on me. Read up on 4th trimester , it’s actually really healthy and normal that they want to sleep on / with you still. My lo will now sleep happily in her next to me, but it took time. Although it feels hard , the one thing that helped me is remembering that this is just a season and you and your partner will have the rest of your lives to spend with each other x

I was strictly EBF until 16 weeks so I feel you 🥰 it's so daunting and tiring. My only advice is- try getting baby to fall asleep in his sleep space. Whatever that takes, maybe offer your boob while he's laying there, sleep sack might help him feel more secure. But also.. I found one of my husband's shirts helped us get our daughter to sleep alone 🤣 we would wrap her in it until she was passed out & just Hawkeye her until I could remove it. It was always a shirt my husband already wore but I'd have to assume with your LO being a boy he would benefit from one of your shirts🤣❤️ listen, we do crazy things when we think it might work. It worked for me. I had to get my daughter to trust her sleep space was safe while also EBF 😭 it took 3-4 nights but it always worked after 15-20 minutes keeping her in her bedside bassinet & I'd just pat her bum for 3 minutes, stop for 1-2, repeat & she put herself out! Best of luck, this does pass. Around 4 months I started supplementing formula only for overnight/ bed time

Have you tried maybe popping him down with a light muslin that you've slept with also? Maybe for your smell...sounds silly but my friend did this with hers and it worked but not sure on if its advised!
I had a vague idea about the forth trimester but I actually researched it properly after reading your post and it made me feel less worried- he’s obviously taking comfort from sleeping with me and if that’s what he needs then I’m going to keep on doing it. I was more worried that I wasn’t being a good mum for not having established a routine. Thank you for the advice! Xxxx
Thank you to all of you for your advice. So helpful. I think I’m going to wait until he’s well in to his 3rd month but I will be trying the Moses basket idea, sleep sack and clothing with my scent when I do so. Think I was being a bit hasty/ impatient. Definitely going to enjoy the early night newborn cuddle for a bit longer for now!!!!
