BLW toast choking hazard

Hi all, I’ve been a really anxious mum when it comes to feeding bubba. Today I plucked up the courage and cut up strips of toast with plant based butter (he has CMPA and jam). He started munching on it straight away and had some crust but then was sucking on the jam I suppose and the bread became quite soggy but he was still going for it. I took the bread away from him at this point (poor baby cried so much) as I read somewhere that soft bread poses as a choking hazard as becomes gummy. So my question is at what point is toast not okay? He has two teeth and bites the crust but then what about when the bread becomes soft and soggy so I still just let him continue? Feel like a terrible mum 😢

I believe toast is fine as it doesn't swell in the way that bread does. My son also loves toast and will eventually swallow what he has chewed to a mush.

Toast is fine. However the crust is supposed to be cut as that’s a choking hazard , the toast itself get mushy and small with spit and it’s soft so fine to swallow but the crusts are different xx

Toast is absolutely fine ☺️ they are pretty clever with the reflexes, if they have a bit that’s to big they generally gag it back up x

They can eat and as it gets mushed they can swallow it We all had Pizza Hut on Friday as a family i felt so bad baby was left out, so we tried him on the crust and he went nuts for it and didn’t choke once Hes 9 months next week

Can we give any bread? What about the salt content?

@Seema We just give normal wholemeal, and he only has half a slice a day so I don't think the salt will be harmful. I wouldn't give artisanal bread with olives etc.

The bread becoming soggy is the only way my LO can swallow it, so personally I just would have let him keep going at it. I’ve never cut the crusts off either - didn’t realise that was supposedly a choking hazard! But don’t think I’ll get away with cutting them off now as that’s her favourite bit 😅

I would have just left them to eat it as you don’t know till you try! I have always let my boy eat toast and never actually needed to intervene, I also have been doing him sandwiches for lunch every so often since he was 7 months and he eats it so well. I just find that I won’t know how he is going to do with a food until o try him with it. Bit like grapes 😂 I was so paranoid of giving them to him but done it at 7 and a half months and it’s one of his fave fruits!
