Hello all!
We are currently adjusting to wonderful life with our 10 day old.
I have been breastfeeding since day one without much issue.
( well except the last few days— I think maybe my letdown is starting to confuse her/ be too much for her, but it’s hard to tell if that’s actually what I’m experiencing just from reading)
I usually only get her to feed from one side at a time - but we just do the other side next time.
I’m ready to start pumping so dad can feed once or twice overnight, and also to start stockpiling for when my leave is over…
(am I? Is there reason to wait?)
Is there a best time of day to try to build this into my routine?
What should I know, I opened my pump and nanobebe feeding system today — so many parts 😳
Any advice appreciated, should I pump the other side after each feed?
Do I have to wash after each pump?
Then maybe I should just pump a few times a day?
Is there a way to collect my day time pumps before putting them in a storage bag?
What do your routines look like? How old is your LO?

You should get a haaka for sure. It’s a little container that suctions to the opposite breast when you’re feeding her to catch the let down or leakage from the other side.
I would try to start it into your routine in the morning if you can just because you make the most milk then. But I would pump the opposite breast as soon as she’s done feeding yes. You could do it while she’s feeding but that’s probably not comfy and might ruin those special moments.
If you wanna be an over achiever you can just pump both of them at the same time when she’s done eating, but know this will increase your supply so be ready for that lol.
If you’re going back to work then I assume you’re gonna be exclusively pumping for that part of the day so you’ll be pumping every 2-3 hours?
No, there’s no reason to wait you can start today!
I didn’t wash after each pump I just rinsed the flanges right away.
There should be bottles that the milk drains into before putting them into storage bags!

There absolutely is a reason to wait. Generally it's recommended you wait until your supply is established before pumping. The more milk you remove the more milk you make, and removing lots in the early days is risking creating an over supply (which isn't a good thing, you're at increased risk of mastitis)

The haakaa uses suction to stimulate your supply. It's not passive and it definitely does more than collect let down

I am due May 13th and I have been wondering the same thing! My husband wants to help with feeding at night and I have wondered how to balance feeding with the breast and pumping!

Wonderful! Thank you guys for these answers, and the links and all the stuff to think about. This is exactly what I was looking for.
Waiting till 6 weeks, we can do. I’ll work on reading/ educating until then.
Thanks 😊 🙏
