Fed up 🄹

Our little girl is 5 months old and my partner was amazing the first two weeks. Since then he’s been little to no help. Past few nights have been awful and he’s gone to the gym instead of just staying at home to let me get rest. He’s then been coming up to sleep at midnight/1am. He’s then bought an air mattress and said he’ll start helping out. He’ll take LG into her nursery and let me have a good night sleep and only wake me up when she needs feeding as she’s BF and won’t take the bottles. Then he has said we can do shift work going into the nursery with her and I’ve said no. I won’t be going into the nursery on the air mattress when he’s had good amount of sleep since she’s been born. Anyways we’ve had another rubbish sleep and he’s working from home today. I’ve gone downstairs at 7am as she just wouldn’t settle. You’d think he would’ve come downstairs and stayed with her for an hour so I could get at least 1 hour sleep before he turned he’s laptop on. It’s now 8:30 and he’s up getting ready for work. He doesn’t help cook or clean either. We’re both first time parents but I feel like I’m the only parent. He says there isn’t much he can do cause she’s always feeding but that’s lies. Yes she’s feeding 2 hourly but he can help the other times she isn’t. Just fed up..

Honestly men just don't have that motherly instinct that we have. They genuinely don't think the way we do. He probably thinks lying on isn't doing anything wrong when it just makes us resent them for being lazy and not helping. My partner is fab with the baby but when it comes to nights he would sleep through him screaming like he literally never hears him. They sleep soundly because its not in then to wake up to the baby. Its Tiring but it'll not be forever. I'm also not saying the way men is, is OK I'm just saying they need direction and to be taught do this or that with baby they just don't automatically do things the way a mother instinctively does x

I just never realised how hard it would be to be a mum.. because I thought I’d have a partner who helped I mean on weekends he does the bare minimum too.. I don’t ever get a break. Maybe 30 minutes but then he’ll moan he’s heavy to hold. It’s just really sad and I’d rather be a single mum than be in a relationship & the whole world think he’s a great dad x

Breathe and consider a walk, out for a coffee or something just to get out for a little. Easier said than done and last thing you want when tired i know but it will help. Every couple go through this in some degree and it can only be resolved by talking/ working it through. Try if you can to have some baby free time together, it helped us when we hit this bump first time x

Now that's wild. He should definitely want to help or cuddle baby or play with baby. It is definitely hard work. I've done every single night feed from my wee man was born. Not had an 8 hour sleep for months and he'll come in from work and sleep solid for like 8-10 hours. I'm just used to it I'm over it that I'm the main parent atm its hard but also so rewarding. I try to get out every day walking go for coffee go swimming so I'm not stuck at home feeling down. I really don't think men mean to cause us upset they just don't think the same as us xx

Oh I’m sorry you’re going through that. It’s definitely not easy. Tbh I would stop doing anything at all in the house (cooking, cleaning, etc) and use that time to rest if possible. Then communicate to your partner that he needs to do those things since you do everything else. You’re probably overtired and fed up, but it would help to have the conversation when you’re not feeling too emotional so you can word it in a way that he doesn’t see it as a personal attack and can be more receptive.
Big hugs šŸ«‚

He goes to the gym but moans the baby is too heavy?! Make it make sense
He needs to pull his weight.. he’s a dad. You’re tired from your full time job of being a parent. He should be helping out more. Let him know how you feel and what you want to see change

Honestly, this isn’t an ā€˜all men’ thing as some men are absolutely brilliant and do more than their fair share , it just sounds like he either had no clue or unfortunately is very selfish and doesn’t care enough about you and Bub.
If it were my hubby I’d tell him in no uncertain terms how I feel, and what I need/expect him to do to help. You’ve just got to say, or ask! If you want an hour sleep before he logs on, tell him.
If nothing changes then you probably have to think whether the relationship is right for you.

Thank you so much everyone for your replies. I know not all men are the same and I’m very envious of the ones who are amazing dads. We’ve had multiple conversations and quite frankly I’m fed up of having them. I know one day I will just wake up and say I’ve had enough. X

God, I wouldn’t be able to do baby care, cooking, cleaning and the night feeds. You must be exhausted ā¤ļø

When do things get easier?

As we entered the 9-12 month stage, my son started crawling and pulling himself up. He also became more clingy and does not play alone, still doesnt sleep through the night, and this week has been sick (so EVERYTHING amplified). I am tired and overwhelmed. Please lie and tell me things get better. 🄺

4 month bed time

What time do you put your babies to bed?
What time do you start your 'routine?'
My LO currently goes to bed around 10.30pm, and I know i need to start bringing it forward. Everytime ive tried, it takes longer for my LO to settle.
We are exclusively breastfeeding. Any advice Mamas?

6 month old autistism

My 6 month old makes no eye contact with me and doesn’t respond when I call him. Can this just be a phase or personality trait as apposed to autism

Colostrum storing?

Has anyone successfully extracted colostrum before the baby’s born? Apparently it gets produced from 16w pregnant and you can start storing it in the freezer but I’m 34w looking at my nipples and the syringes on amazon wondering how it works?? Like what did you use and did it hurt? 🄲

5.30am wakeups 😫😓

My 15 week old has started waking up about 5.30am and is really hard to settle back down - it’s like he thinks it’s time to wake up for the day. He used to go to bed at 9pm and was up at 8am but now he goes to bed between 7.30-8pm as he’s knackered by then but waking up at 5.30am😓. Any advice to get him to sleep a little longer in the morning?! Even an extra hour would be lovely 🤣
