I screamed at my toddler and sent her to bed. I'm tired of her tantrums and her controlling me. I just realised that I let her do anything she wants and it's gotten to a point where I have no control anymore.

She's destroying my things, messing up the house, annoying the baby etc. She refuses to sleep / eat anything i tell her to do. I've had enough!! I want to run away from her!!

Hey it’s okay mama , how old is your toddler , and did you just have a baby ? Are these are only children ?

Avatar

she's 2 years 5 months and I have a 5 month boy.
We were actually having such a wonderful day but I haven't cooked all day, I have guests tomorrow so I finally got myself into the kitchen to get some food prepared. And in that time she smeared this new makeup that was just delivered home, she found it, opened it and smeared it all over the baby 😭

I'm good with her routine and I do discipline her a lot. But once her dad comes over, she gets super spoilt and I have to pick up the pieces.

I tried to be more laid back so she would like me the way she likes her dad but it just backfired.

So, you screamed at her & sent her to bed for something that was your fault? How is that fair exactly?

This makes me so sad. I understand you’re frustrated but she has no impulse control, so you can tell her not to do something & she literally can’t help herself. You need to be redirecting, yelling isn’t going to do anything but give her anxiety. You cannot make her eat, but you can continue to offer foods you know she likes, we do a pouch before bed also in case my daughter didn’t get full from dinner. I know it’s hard but she’s still adjusting to her new sibling, plus just being a tiny human. Remember that she’s not giving you a hard time, she’s having a hard time.

I’m so sorry mama! But hey, it seems like you just need a little gateway, I think all toddlers go through that refusing and getting into things. I’d say put things you don’t want her to have high so she won’t be able to see or get in reach. Try and go out and do things so she won’t have an attitude. (I have to do that with my toddler)

It sounds like everyone’s having big feelings, and struggling with expectations. Watching a toddler is a full time job. Watching an infant is a full time job. Taking care of a home is a full time job. You are doing all three!

Take a deep breath. Take a moment to collect yourself and calm down, and you can always repair with your child by giving her lots of hugs, and assurance that you love them. Children are very forgiving.

It’s going to take a lot of work to undo her behavior, but you got this!!

Don't worry fresh start tomorrow. Sit her down and explain that you're sorry you got frustrated because you did "x,y and z" hug it out and think of a plan to get rid of that behavior. You got this.

made me sad too😔 but good advice!!

I know toddlers can be really hard. They get into everything. But they don’t know a lot. They are learning. I understand being at home it drives people crazy. I’ve been 3 days up with no sleep because my son wakes up in the middle of the night. It is what it is. Also during the day he gets into everything, he is biting a lot, but I just say “no” or when he hits I say “no that hurts”. But screaming won’t do anything it will make things worse. Also I put everything away when it comes to my stuff because he will take things out.
Maybe take some time for yourself maybe that might help. I now being a parent is hard.

It’s a real balancing act to be their safe space and validate emotions but also hold boundaries. My daughter just turned 2 and my son is 3 months. What I find helpful is making sure to set up activities for her to do once I need to do something with the baby or by myself. Most of the time these “acting out” episodes are a call for connection. She’s still a baby too and doesn’t know how to communicate all these new emotions she’s experiencing. A new sibling is also a big change for them. I keep my daughter involved with everything; chores and the baby and she loves it. That made the transition so much easier.

I swear this is my 3yo! She just turned 3 2 weeks ago and we've been going through this for awhile now. My husband is currently trying to get her to eat her lunch that she asked for. She refuses to eat, only goes to sleep if she passes out on the couch, she doesn't get her way she will scream at the top of lungs! Put her in timeout she finds something to play with!

Is this normal?

Is it just my husband that does this? He is able to work from home via his computer and in the mornings and evenings he is on there doing his job. When he is done for the day he tends to stay in the room and either play video games or watch something. He will occasionally come out and play with the girls for a few minutes and that’s it but when I really need him he says he is busy. My daughters are both 1 year old now and I am just wondering how much involvement should he have with them now?
Idk if this is the norm or not…..

Tablet for kids

Alright don’t need any negative Nancy’s telling me not to get my 2yo a tablet so if that’s what your gunna do please don’t participate in my poll.

We’re about to move cross country 3+ day trip and my 2yo and 9m hate the car I’m talking scream their heads off till they are out of their seats. We’ve already changed car seats and it didn’t help so I’d like to at least have one entertained and sit next to baby and try and distract her or put her to sleep. Our new car has tvs but since they are rear faced my 2yo can’t see it.

Debating getting her a tablet or dvd player right now on long car rides I end up giving her my phone because I get so overwhelmed sitting in between both of them screaming and crying.

And yes I do bring different toys I bring snacks I play songs try to distract her other ways but for the sake of not losing my mind on this move I think this is best.

-A very overwhelmed and anxious to move mama 😓

Daycare?

Thoughts on daycare?? Truly, I am SCARED to be leaving my kid for daycare. I literally do not trust anyone, not even family (they haven’t given me a reason it’s just trust issues on my end, you never know). He’s turning 3 and I’ve been a sahm the whole time but tbh my man doesn’t make enough for us to move out somewhere more calm . We live in a ‘not so safe’ area in LA and I’m just not used to living here so I just want us to give my son a better life and in order to speed up the process I would have to work.. I do lashes at home and I’d be open to take new clients so I wouldn’t have to look for work but I’m just scared to lose my license 😭
