I work in the marketing team for a financial services firm in London. It’s mandatory to take 2 weeks off, but some staff have been exempt such as a PA or facilities manager etc…
I have asked to be exempt as those 10 days, equivalent to 10 weeks of Mondays I can look after my 20m. I take
Mondays annual leave
Tuesday he’s at nan
Wed/Thurs/Fri at nursery.
Work are NOT allowing me to be exempt from the 10days, I really need those 10days to take Mondays off each week.
We can’t afford to go away this year or locally in the UK, money is really tight.
Any advice?
I know my childcare is not works problem, but at least meet me half way!

I thought financial services companies required staff to book a 2 week block of leave so that they can look for insider trading/fraud patterns so you might struggle to change their minds if this is (almost) a blanket policy. I'd suggest finding out why those specific roles permit people to be exempt and see if there are similarities with your role you could argue

While your work has to give you at least 20 days annual leave a year they legally can dictate when you take these so unfortunately I think you'll find it hard to fight this one. I get why you're annoyed though
