So my son used to be fine with teaching his hair washed but got the past couple of months he's hated it. He used to tip his head back and we'd rinse it no problem. But now he refuses to tip his head back and the only way I can rinse his hair is ask him to close his eyes and I either shower the shampoo off or pour water over him. He hates having water splashed on his face. We've been taking him swimming and he loves it but still hates getting water splashed on his face. I'm not really sure what to do because he screams when I rinse his hair. He calms down after a few seconds normally but I feel really bad and I don't want to traumatise him. Does anyone have any tips on how I can help him overcome his fear? I've tried demonstrating to him on myself that it's ok to have water on the face but I'm not sure it's working.

We’re the exact same!! I’ve started using one of the baby sponges and using that to rinse out the shampoo/get it wet whilst also using my other hand to shield his face, big improvement, still get some tears but nowhere near as bad!

I'll give that a go! Thank you! I think I'll try to use as little shampoo and possible to clean his hair. He has had a phase of mild cradle cap recently which I didn't even know toddlers could get so I had to wash his hair every day to get rid of it so I don't think the frequency helped 😢

You try something like a shower cap for hairwashing it will stop the water and soap from getting in the eyes.

We have being having the same problems recently. I have spent a lot of time trying to slowly get him used too it again. Started by just pouring water right at the back of his head until I got further forward. He still whinges a little for the over the front bit but we are getting better

It's good to hear we're not the only ones! We're going to take it slowly too until he's back to normal!
