I'm in the same boat. My nipples are inverted and baby had a tongue tie, so we got off to a bad start. I'm still not breastfeeding, because little man finds it hilarious to lick my boobs but not suck on them, with or without the shields, even though he can now.
So I'm exclusively pumping my milk and giving him at least one full feed of boob milk and the rest of the day is formula, so far it works for me, although I do still have very sore nipples from pumping.
The only thing that helps mine is lanolin and I use nipple shells too which keep my nipples soft, as I find when they're dry between pumping sessions they hurt more.

I haven't had these issues myself but I did have a drop in supply when I got I'll the other week and not log after having my daughter needed help as my boobs were too sore, I did find shields helped, but I also find what helps is the hakka pump, you just put it on and leave it while they feed (catches letdown but I sometimes use it instead of a pump) I found the hakka is helping rebuild my supply (I get 1-3 ounces every feed while my daughter breastfeeds which helps my freezer stash) and also I starting breastfeeding from both sides of at least offering both sides instead of one breast a feed, just remember fed is best no matter how the baby is fed , the ease pain I'd say use nipple cream and rub some breast milk when they leak onto the nipple to help heal and remember you're doing great no matter what !!xx

But I do definitely recommend getting a hakka pump (I got mine from Amazon for around £10) x

I had a baby with a poor latch and a tongue tie. My nipples were in agony. I use shields when feeding (I changed the size of the shields too).
I also bought the silver cups (these have been amazing in recovery for my nipples). Nipple cream 🙌🏻 also helps the nipple shield stay in place and helps lubricate.
Don’t worry about giving your nipples a break too when you need to. Xx
