I am (or was) getting ready to enroll my son in kindergarten, until I saw the clause in the enrollment paperwork that asked me to check the box that says I understand and agree that the school may use corporal punishment, (paddling) as a form of discipline as the school sees fit. I am absolutely not ok with any person laying hands on my child, and I thought such things in schools were a thing of the past, my grandparents and parents’ era. Certainly not now. Am I the odd one out? Has anyone else seen this in their school enrollment forms?

Wow! I didn’t even know they still paddled at school. The school I went to in Mississippi loved to paddle somebody 😩. Idk. I’m on the fence with this one

That’s ridiculous!! What county was this in?!

I was also incredibly shocked that there are still schools that do this! Before I found out that I was pregnant I lived in a small city outside of Statesboro and the school there also still had corporal punishment! I was SHOCKED!
I 110% agree that no one should be physically punishing kids but especially in a school setting!! How are kids supposed to even learn in that kind of environment??

Idk why it's still on the paperwork but no one was ever paddled the whole time I was in school, nor by brother. I don't think they still do it, but you can always make it abundantly clear that in no terms are they to touch your child.
I’m looking at Treutlen county in Soperton and Vidalia city schools and both sets of paperwork have it. All my mom alarms are going off.
my thoughts exactly!
both Vidalia city schools and Treutlen county schools in soperton have it in their handbook.
yes! I’m strongly considering homeschooling instead because of this. Even if they say they won’t touch him, what’s to say he won’t experience another child getting punished that way?
