When my LG was 5/6 weeks old I was told she had suspected CMPA as she had all the symptoms and I was told to cut out all dairy products as I was exclusively breastfeeding. She is now 12 weeks old and I haven’t had milk/dairy since. She was weighed yesterday at her 12 week appointment and has dropped 2 centiles from her birth weight and has only gained 3lbs in 12 weeks. Recently I’ve noticed that my supply has dropped and I don’t think she’s getting enough milk from me.. & I’ve been struggling with the breastfeeding for a good few weeks now and it’s really getting me down as it’s more stressful than enjoyable. I have bought the formula milk specifically for babies with CMPA and I’ve tried giving her a top up of that but she refuses to drink it and spits it out. I don’t really blame her though because it does smell disgusting😩 I am honestly at my whits end and don’t know what to do.. If anyone has any advice or has been in the same boat any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

From some reading I've done, breastfeeding often has a blip at around this age. It's called the 3 month crisis so it could be that and it might be worth checking out the articles on Google around this. https://la-romi.com/blogs/la-romi-blog/breastfeeding-crisis-guide
You'd have to double check it was definitely ok but I'm sure my brother used to put non alcoholic vanilla extract in his little boys cmpa formula to make it more palatable.

No advice but i am in a simaliar situation. My girl is 10 weeks, ive been dairy free for 5 weeks, symptoms still havent fully improved shes also a nightmare on the boob in the evening. So that combined with cutting dairy is resulting in me finding BF abit stressful.
My saving grace would be her taking a bottle of expressed milk in evenings from hubby but she outright refuses 🙃
Does you LO take expressed milk from a bottle? As in do you know if its the fomula thats an issue or the bottle itself? I have heard of people putting alcohol free vanilla essence in allergenic fomula to make baby take it. Or when you first introduce do 1/2 BM 1/2 fomula?

Have you tried changing the formula? Theres aptamil pepti 1 and an SMA formula that are both for babies with CPMA. I’m combo feeding and my LO was on Neutramagen but there’s a nationwide shortage so we’re having to try another one. Also have you had your LO checked for a tongue tie? Again, my son had this on top of CPMA so he found it really difficult to gain weight. Please don’t get disheartened or feel bad, you are doing the best you possibly can for your baby; you’ve got this 🩵

thank goodness it’s not just me then because I feel so so stressed.. I do try to express milk but I’m lucky to even get an ounce per boob. My baby is the same she refuses the bottle and won’t suck it so I’m not actually too sure if it’s the formula or the actual bottle itself then. Have you tried the vanilla essence or half expressed/half formula?

no I haven’t tried changing the formula yet.. it’s the aptamil pepti 1 she won’t drink atm, so I’ll try a couple more times and if all fails I’ll ask for the SMA one to try.. No she hasn’t been checked for tongue so I’ll maybe bring that up at her appointment. Thank you so much🩷 sometimes I just feel so helpless and there’s nothing more frustrating when you don’t know how to help x

thank you so much, I’ll have a read at this because I’ve noticed too that because she’s more aware she’ll come off the boob to look about. I’ll also give the vailla extract a try, thank you x

@Orla no definitly not just you, i think when you tell people you've had to cut dairy they dont understand how hard it is, or in how many things it is! So stressful, knowing you can do them harm and not able to eat choclate i miss it so much😭
So annoying mine used to take a bottle of breastmilk, but when i had to go DF i stopped pumping cause it was all abit much, and since then she wont.
No i havent tried formula yet, the doctors wont prescribe it, and until her symptoms have passed i dont want to try anything else as will hard to judge for a reaction
