Had our 35 week growth scan today and he’s consistently been measuring big.
Feel like my hands being forced for a c section … as if they induce me at 39 I think he’d already be pushing 10lbs!
Anyone else in similar position? Or have any positive stories of planned sections? Struggling to get my head around not going into labour etc …

Our first kiddo was 9.1lbs. Measured big on the scan and was told he would likely get stuck.
We attempted an induction as I ended up well over due. The induction was totally fine, just rather long! Ended up with a c section anyway.
Went to MAU this morning because surprise surprise baby number two is measuring big as well. I’m choosing to have an elective c section but I believe you can decide how you want to deliver. Your body, your choice right? There’s probably going to be pros and cons for both.
For me as long as baby is delivered safely I’m pretty happy but I know everyone has different expectations of what they would like the experience to be. Good luck with your decision!

My first was 9lbs 5oz at birth, he was measuring big on the scans too and was definitely on the bigger side of normal.
I had a very positive, spontaneous natural birth at 40w + 6 days. Only minor intervention was an episiotomy.
Obviously there is nothing wrong with having a planned section but don't feel bullied into it if it's not what you want! Ask all of the questions and make sure you are 100% happy before making a decision 😊

Not sure a baby that is measuring big is criteria enough to push you into a c section they'll consider other things as well I.e any pre existing health conditions, anything that could contribute to things going amiss etc. I was offered a sweep with my 1st as they was classed as big and Mt labour went on for 4 days ending in an emergency c section and baby got stuck. She was born 9lb 2l2 at 38+6 weeks.....
From the beginning of this pregnancy they've told me the safest option would be a c section and low and behind again baby is off the chart but they are not too concerned this time as having q section from the beginning.
I guess its only you can decide what it is best for you the consultants will always try and give you worst case scenario. I guess at the heart of it is you want baby and you to be here safe and well. You have every right also to try for whatever you want and then that plan may change most birth plans do but just make sure it's an informed decision with someone who can advocate for you xx

My first was 10lbs 4oz and nobody suspected a thing! I did end up having a c section just because I wasn’t progressing naturally. I’m feeling like this baby will be around the 9lbs mark as he’ll be born at 39 weeks so earlier than my daughter. Nothing is being done though, as in no extra growth scans or anything. I just had to have a diabetes test because of the size of my first but other than that my bump is measuring fine etc. I have chosen to have another c section which is maybe the reason why they’re not concerned

Mines currently measuring 99th centile and hasn't dropped below 97th since they started regular scans at 12 weeks. At 36 weeks my consultant explained that babies expected 10lb and over can have more birth complications and explained these to me. Mines estimated to be just over 11lb but I'm sticking with natural birth for multiple reasons whilst being fully aware that if he is that big, or bigger the chances are high of instruments and/or c section. I'm also high risk due to a dodgy cervix that may not work but my birth plan is designed with babies safety in mind and the consultants and midwives will act as needed. If you want to have a section, be it as your choice not because you feel forced. Big baby is not a reason to be forced unless there's other medical conditions

I’m in same position, got a c section on august 2nd. Measuring above 97 centile. I chose c section over being induced. Xx

Im 36+1 weeks and had a growth scan today and baby has been measuring on 97th throughout. I was offered an induction at 39 weeks and I’ve declined it and instead asked for an extra growth scan at 38 weeks so we can assess again. If he remains consistent, then I don’t plan on having an induction and intend to try to deliver naturally.

Yep, measured big last time and I am this time too. My daughter was born at 38 weeks after spontaneous labour and a low intervention water birth, weighing 9lb4. I’m hoping to do the same again

My baby is measuring on the 98th centile and if I didn’t need a planned delivery because of medical reasons then I wouldn’t be opting for an IOL or C-section. A big baby is not an automatic criteria for a planned delivery and many women deliver large babies spontaneously without intervention x

Hey! Similar situation! My baby was measuring 7lb.12oz on my 36 weeks scan!
As his breach and measuring big I have a c section booked at 38+5 which is next week i have developed gestational diabetes though! Have you been tested for this?! Xx

I’ve measured big and going for growth scans. I have one more at 36 weeks and I have to decide if I want to be induced at 38 or c section at 39. If I go full term he will be over 10ibs. I am waiting for my scan date but I know I dont want to be induced so I guess I’m having a c section. I do have hope I might have him naturally before that as he is 1/5th engaged and im starting to have a few other small signs it could be earlier. When I was in triage the other day the midwife said I don’t think it will get to 39 weeks which gives me hope I’ll have him soon. I’m 35 weeks tomorrow.

yes I’ve heard a lot of inductions end in emergency c section anyway. I’m also going for c section over induction.
