If it wasn't for my partner noticing air bubbles in my IV, I wouldn't be here right now. He had to tell them mid surgery because no one was paying attention. I also had a surgeons elbow digging into my chest my whole operation and the attitude she had when she was asked by her colleague to move it, because I couldn't breathe.... Boy. 😅
I personally had a great experience at Lewisham, both at the birth centre and eventually the labour ward. The midwives and then the rest of the team were amazing. And the postnatal ward was a great start for us. It could help to have a look around both to help decide as there will be a range of experiences for both.
I’d look at the CQC ratings for both hospitals and read what they have found. It might help with your choices.
I had an amazing experience at Lewisham even though my birthing plan went to shit 😂 I had to be induced and ended in emergency C section, but I couldn’t fault the care I received throughout!
I was told to not give birth at Lewisham by other family/friends. And to go Guys or St. Thomas instead, but the night I started having contractions I didn't have the luxury of travelling all that way when Lewisham hospital is a 3 minute drive from my house. Overall I had a great experience at Lewisham hospital (I was in the labour ward but still thought I'd share), vaginal birth, roughly around 13 hours in labour, I went in 8pm on Friday 24th with painful contractions, then had her at 5:59am on Saturday 25th Before that I was already having frequent contractions at home. I was on gas and air (it was literally my best friend) I had a lovely lady there called April who was great in keeping me calm and focused on delivering my baby and about 4/5 other midwives/nurses in the room too helping me x
Give birth in Lewisham last year June one of the hottest days. I had the best experience I was discharged 11h after giving birth ( I was doing really well, they ware impressed) had the best midwife and doctors. I loved how caring my midwife was she was amazing! Honestly I was planing to give birth in Orpington but after I had a scare and went Orpington they dealt with me very unprofessional, I was horrified. Couple weeks later I give birth in Lewisham and had the best experience!
@Star this would have been the labour ward
My experience was fine at Lewisham labour ward. Birth centre was closed due to Covid for my first. Planning to go there for my second- you can do a tour weds at 1pm or 4pm. I loved it and felt reassured I would be in good hands
I spent time in both birth centre and labour ward. I was in labour for 48 hours, I wanted to check fetal movements after about 10 hrs, went to labour triage, they monitored me and then ignored me, I went home (I live just a few minutes walk from the hospital). went to birth centre about 18 hours later, I was still in early labour but uncomfortable at home, they looked after me and were really nice. Had to go to labour ward in the end not sure why but after a few hours being ignored in triage the ladies from the birth centre came to save me and the baby came a couple hours later. Labour ward seemed v understaffed, I wish I could have stayed the whole time at the birth centre but that’s life. Most of the people I met were really nice.
Just had my second at the birth centre. Brilliant experience and staff, so supportive of all my choices. They just weren’t sure about me using the birth pool due to low blood pressure issues but explained it all really well. No complaints from me xx
Go to kings. I just had my LG in Lewisham and it was a bad experience. No one communicated with me, the drs were not listening (literally was told by one I hadn't had a check when I had & he didn't understand this for a good while) I was also pressured by the consultants and stressed out every step of my pregnancy. Even the post natal ward was an absolute joke, I asked for an hour to get my baby's formula from the fridge and was just told "wait for the midwife" & then "the midwife is out there now, go ask" right after I had a C section. I was induced due to reduced movements & I had a 30 hour delay to my induction because a midwife didn't know what she was doing. To this day I'm still waiting for confirmation on what went wrong with my induction that led to an emergency c section. What I've said here is just the tip of it. Honestly, I wish I listened when I was told to go somewhere else
