I know you’re advised to wait until you are 37 weeks but I am currently 36 and leaking so much that it feels like I’m wasting what I could potentially collect! Would there be any real harm if I am leaking so much anyway?
Would it also be easier to collect in a cup and then put in a syringe? Or does anyone have any advice on doing it. Thanks x

I just got back from the hospital and I was told I could collect. I’m 36 weeks, just hand expressing for 5 mins once a day till 38 weeks then I can more often 5-10 times a day. No pumping as that can induce labor
Not sure if I was told this due to the fact that I’ll most likely be having a CS

Not a professional here, but as far as I understood my midwife, it is ok to collect if it’s leaking on its own. It’s stimulation that is not advisable.

My doctor actually advised me to start trying to express colostrum from 37 weeks. I was told to collect it and keep it refrigerated to use it when baby is born.

I was told to collect in a cup and freeze... the next day collect in another cup and add to the frozen cup once you have finished and keep frozen... then you can put it in a syringe before use but would need to thaw it all

My midwife told me I could start collecting from 36 weeks but I was already 37 weeks by then so I started that same day. I use 4ml colostrum collectors that I got off amazon

My OB said if I’m leaking it’s fine to collect it and to just be aware that there’s a little bit of research that says nipple stimulation can cause contractions. She said if I have any contractions just to stop and try again later and if they continue follow up with her for further guidance. I use syringes with caps, 1ML and 5ML they’re pretty cheap on Amazon, I’ve had good luck using them. I’ve also been leaking since like 30 weeks which is uncommon, and started collecting at 32, I’ll squeeze lightly which is all it really takes but no pumping as that can induce labor. Just make sure you don’t fully fill the syringes because you should freeze them to store and they will expand a little in the freezer. Colostrum is only good for 24 hours in the fridge.

If you're leaking and looking to collect I'd consider getting an elvie catch or similar. They don't pump at all, just collect leaks
