Just a little moan about unsolicited comments that wind me up!
When people say to me “oh baby needs to be able to sleep through anything and loud noises”
Sorry would you sleep through someone shouting in the same room, or doors slamming, or people trying to get in your face? Because I sure as hell wouldn’t 🤬
Or from a non parent “daytime naps should be in a light room”
Whenever I nap, before or during pregnancy (don’t tend to nap as much as I’d love to, my mind is constantly racing through the day) I would close my curtains and nap in the dark

I was told by MIL that I shouldn't use electric breast pumps. Just coz she had a bad experience 30 years ago with one. I was told by the health visitor not to allow baby to contact nap due to the risk of over heating. In the first few weeks that's the only way she would nap.
Some people just want to tell you things without knowing the full story. Everyone is different. My little girl can sleep through construction work, neighbours arguing, nephews playing pretty much everything and all in light rooms. She can't sleep through SILs dog barking or the Olympic games when I've got them on tv 😂

Omg I feel you 🤣 especially about the noise. Naps are a nightmare for us, baby will wake for anything, except the dog barking or squeaking her toys - must have heard it a lot in the womb! 🫣
I’ve had a couple of family comment how she “needs to learn” 😅
X

Pretty sure they’ve disproved the napping in a dark room thing. They used to think it would influence melatonin levels and confuse baby about daytime/nighttime, but they’ve discovered that doesn’t happen, and the darkness helps baby get good sleep.
Also regarding noise, an occupational therapist I watch on YouTube says that if they’re sleeping with lots of noise they’re actually “habituating”, which means they’re working really hard to stay asleep and the sleep is poor quality.
People like to make comments based on what they remember from generations ago and can’t accept that things have changed!
crazy ain’t it. Does she not realise there has been changes over the years to things like that?
Got to do what works best for you and your daughter 🫶🏽
mental ain’t it! I’ll do what works for us. What works for one baby, might not work for another! Everyone is different. Haha that’s brilliant that she’s used to the dog barking and dog toys 😂
My thing is WHY do they have to learn? Unless I am sooooo tired, I need it to be dark and quiet! And I’m 29. Actually not quiet, I think when my daughter goes in her own room, I’ll need to get another white noise machine. I actually woke up this morning because it died at 4am 😳 x
oooh I didn’t actually know about this! This is good to know and a good comment back too.
People don’t realise how much things change over the years do they 🤦🏽♀️
