I’m trying to work out why my little boy who’s 11 months old is waking at 5am everyday for the past 4 months.
Wakes at 5am
Nap 1: 9-10:15am
Nap 2: 2-3:15pm
Asleep between 7:10pm and 7:30pm
When he wakes he is ready for the day. But he is quite grumpy throughout the day (I thought it was a phase/teeth)
When I reduce his sleep he still wakes at 5am and I increased his day sleep to 3 hours and then he woke at 4:30am.
Anyone come through the other side and could let me know what the secret key is?

Have you tried a later bed time? Increasing it by 15 min at time and sticking to it for 10/14 days?
The only way to avoid a 5/5:30am rise for us it’s to put her to bed at 20/20:30. Like this she sleeps until 6:30/7am, she never had more than 10hrs of night sleep.
yes it doesn’t make any difference. I can’t hang him out to late either as he is ready to go down around 7pm ish as he’s tired. I’ve tried an earlier bedtime aswell and that didn’t help either 😫

But have you stick to the changes for more than a week? It takes times to adjust the sleeping pattern. That’s why we should changing it by only 10-15 min in a long period, otherwise we end up with over tired children that wake up even earlier, while 15 min it’s not a huge change.
But the fact that increasing the day sleep has making him waking up even earlier suggest that he’s having enough total sleep so we won’t wake up later unless he’s going to bed later and if you reduce day time sleep he might get to bed too tired and he’ll wake up early anyway.
My opinion is that you should shift all the sleep (naps and bed time) by 15min until he goes to sleep at 8pm, wakes up at 6am, nap 1 10-11:15am, nap 2 3-4:15pm.
But it take time, you can’t do it in a day or two.
no I usually try changes for 4/5 days which may be the problem. However a later bedtime will be hard when he shares a room with his sister who will never last till 8pm but I will see what I can do with the advice you have given. Many thanks!
