what are the white flakes floating around in my breast milk?

i was prepping a bottle for my son today and i noticed kinda like white flakes floating in the breast milk. it was pumped not even 24 hrs ago so i don’t know how it would be spoiled as it was immediately refrigerated. what is it? i’m scared it will harm my newborn.

It’s just the fat separating from the water. Breast milk is 87% water. And when you let it sit, it separates.

@Deeana ohh thank you so much! that relieves me

It’s the fat if you warm the milk up the fat will melt back into the milk

Fat separating lol, just give it a little shake and it’ll go back to “ normal “ 😇
