I'm upset baby has had chocolate biscuit in nursery

LO has never had chocolate and I've seen on pics on the app he's eating a choc biscuit. I've purposely not given anything like that as they're not a great eater and want to establish eating whole fresh foods before introducing sugar. I just wouldn't have expected nursery to be giving sugary biscuits to a 12 month old as a snack. I don't know how to politely approach but need to say something as I'm not happy about it.

Am I in the minority here?

Is it proper chocolate or just cocoa powder type chocolate biscuits? I hope that makes sense. I know my nursery (and myself) have given biscuits with cocoa powder in before but they weren't dipped in chocolate or had chips/chunks.

Did you tell them you arent giving LO chocolate when you did your settle sessions?

I’m in exactly the same situation. Our nursery menu is garbage. Fish fingers & spaghetti hoops, sausage and baked beans. Biscuits for snacks. Some home made stuff and some healthier snacks but I’m so uncomfortable with what they’re feeding her. I had a word with them and it made me cry. They assured me most of what was on offer was home made and that they feed the processed and tinned foods because they have to cater for all kids who won’t eat anything else. I don’t feed her anything like that but I have zero control over what happens at nursery. There are government guidelines and example menus that nurseries can voluntarily sign up to. My next step is to call a meeting with the owner/manager and ask about their food policy and if they sign up to the government guidelines. It specifically mentions to avoid biscuits and confectionary between meals so maybe you should take this to your nursery. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/example-menus-for-early-years-settings-in-england

No I didn't tell them I wasn't giving it but I'm just surprised they're giving them to children that age.
I don't think it's routine as some days I'm told he's had watermelon and other bits of fruit. I was just surprised today.
I just think I won't be able to shield it forever but I didn't have the best relationship with sugar/still don't and have bad teeth, so I want to at least avoid it until he knows what it is. Not just be handed a chocolate biscuit to eat without asking for it.

I'm not sure if dipped in choc or not but still sugary. Most advice online does say to avoid at this age so was just wondering if I was over reacting as was just shocked to see it

This was something I looked at when looking at nurseries I asked what was cooked and looked at a usual menu, I even asked to see the kitchen.
There’s also a menu for that day on the door when you drop off.
Saying that I wouldn’t be bothered if he had a chocolate biscuit as a treat, I would just ask what he’s eaten today it could be it’s a home made fake chocolate biscuit, our nursery do loads of hidden veg stuff.
I mean some of the flavoured yoghurts have more sugar than a biscuit in.
I think unless you say you don’t want him having sugar etc then how were they to know? Kind of on the fence but I get how frustrated you must feel

They're not to blame in any way, don't get me wrong, as I should have said. Just wanted to gage other opinions on it.

Appreciate the replies x

He's also started refusing meals part way through as knows fruit is coming after and devours that, so I know the sweet tooth has started. Fruit I can handle but not really heavily processed stuff like biscuits at this age.

I wouldn’t be happy as we don’t do sugar/ sweet treats or desserts but it’s a difficult one if you haven’t told them not to give as they won’t think anything of it. I agree nursery menus shouldn’t be giving sugary things to babies so young, some of the menus I see make me shiver!

I think just say you noticed in the photos and you don’t want anything sugary offered again you’d prefer fruit etc. It doesn’t need to be anything more than that and then obviously if they continue to offer it becomes an issue x

Just say like hey I saw she had this can we just stick with the good we’ve provided incase of allergies

Thanks everyone. It was absolutely fine when I spoke to them, just worked myself up over it 💜

If you’ve not mentioned it to the nursery about no sugary snacks, then they are not in the wrong as they wouldn’t know your wishes. I would gently explain to them that you wish for your child not to be giving any sugary snacks. If you have expressed your wishes, then still gently remind them that your LO shouldn’t be giving sugary snacks and going forward can this be followed. My LO has a mixture of both and luckily he eats pretty much anything giving to him xx

Unfortunately, this is the case in this country.
I would emphasis on no additive sugar on any of the food they offer to my baby.

Post partum dad

I have a 2 month old. A few weeks ago my husband crashed out because he didn't feel like he was getting to bond with her. I started exclusively breastfeeding around that time and honestly didnt see the big deal. Baby and I left for a few days and when we got back home, everything was fine. He was extremely hands-on. He helped with my meals, her bedtime, bath, stories.....for a few weeks it was great. Then he randomly sounds depressed af. He says our lo is better off without him, he wants to sleep all day , he asks me not to watch tv then tried playing a video game. He refused to reply to me when i asked any follow-up questions. Then he woke up our baby trying to race me to the bathroom first thing in the morning . He's doing a weird mix of crying, trying, and giving up. Im starting to feel like I cant handle him not being able to handle life with baby and just want to be alone. Are there resources for men?

My friend is over from another country but I don't feel like leaving the house

One of my old friend's is visiting where I currently live and we agreed to meet up today but I feel so tired and exhausted from everything that's been going on with me. I feel if I meet her I'm going to end up having another breakdown from the exhaustion which I have been having often. I'm just thinking about how I need to rest to be able to deal with my toddler and go back to work on Monday without feeling like I need another weekend. I'm torn on what to do so I need you guys to help me decide

Is it bad of me to think this or no?

My husband has been abroad for work (1 day and exploring for 1 day) for 2 and a half days which means I’ve had both kids (1 year and 4 year old) for 2 and a half days plus cooking, cleaning, taking them to clubs, bedtimes!
He came home late afternoon and said I’m so tired, I just need to chill. I said can you wash up whilst I sort kids dinner out, he said he’ll do it later which means he won’t do it and I’ll end up doing it so I said no do it now please otherwise I’ll end up doing it and he said well you have been home and I’ve been away so you’ve just been relaxing.
Don’t know what planet he is on but having the kids alone for 2.5 days is not relaxing. I was stressed!

When he was away, I did miss him and wanted him to come back but now he’s back, I want him to go away again😂
Is that bad?

People telling you your baby is hungry..

I know people don’t always mean it in a bad way and are trying to relate, but when people say my baby is hungry when chewing his hands. I feed him regularly. He eats pretty much every 2 hours. He isn’t hungry, he just loves chewing and exploring his hands. Or they say something about teething, which it is also not, as he isn’t unsettled with it. I have looked into it myself and can be common and neither of those things! He has done it most of the day since 2 months old.

Do I need to pay anything when my child starts school in September

I'm a new mum and obviously didn't grow up in the uk. I currently pay roughly £640 for nursery fees. I'm wondering if my expenses will reduce when my LO starts school or there'll be other expenses (besides bags, uniform etc) will my expenses be anywhere close to £600 monthly?
