No matter how much we try, we can’t get our 4.5 month to take a bottle. She used to take one when she was about 2 months old, but she went through a fussy phase so we just stuck to EBFing, then when we tried to reintroduce the bottle again she was flat out refusing it.
I’m starting to panic as I don’t want to be in a position where I can’t be away from her for more than a couple of hours. On top of all that, she has a suspected cows milk allergy so if this does end up being the case then we’d want to put her on some CMA formula so I don’t have to cut out dairy long-term, but obviously that isn’t an option until she takes a bottle.
I know a lot of people have had this struggle with bottle refusal, so just wondering if anyone has any success stories they can share?

Same thing happened to me. Baby had a fussy period at 2 months so we stopped and couldn’t get back into it.
She’s 3.5months and we’re still trying.
I’ve had the most success with nanobebe bottles as they’re made from breastfed babies.
(Incredibly annoying to have to switch as we were already kitted out with Mam bottles and she was taking these fine before)
It’s still very hit and miss but we’re definitely getting there

I’d say your best bet is to change the bottle brand, they’ve got different type teets on the top tomme tippee worked for me as it’s more ‘breast like’ it’ll be up to your little one’s personal preference though! And feeding with a bottle as though your breastfeeding, position will remind them of bf time x

exactly the same, my daughter was taking mam fine before, so she rejects that, tommee tippee and nuk. I might have to try the nanobebe ones, as I’m getting desperate!

It could also have something to do with the flow of the teat, breastfeeding tends to come out very quickly once it gets started and bottles are a bit more of an effort, could be worth going to the next size which would have extra holes for the milk to come out of. With the cows milk and dairy allergy potential, if you can’t cut out the dairy it may be helpful using colic/reflux bottles if your little ones sick after feeds a lot? Good luck x

best thing about nanobebe is you can squeeze the bottle and it comes squiring out - exactly the same way as when your let down comes out fast.
I found squeezing a bit in gave her a taste for it and she took it a lot better.
However, we’re still only having small successes and having to persevere everyday. It’s really tough.

thank you! To be honest we aren’t even getting to a point where she will suck the teat. It’s almost like she just hates the feel of the silicone in her mouth :( have tried a few brands, but will keep persevering. Thank you x

that does sound good! With the mam ones she won’t even suck and there’s no option to squeeze, so I’ll definitely give these a go - did you get them online. I share your pain, it really is a battle. I hope you see more progress very soon x

yes, I got them on Amazon. The nanobebe shop online doesn’t sell anymore; I think they must’ve sold the company to Amazon.
I’ve got all my fingers crossed for you! It’s honestly such a tough experience, i introduced bottles from day 1 so that I never had to go through this!!
We are slowly but surely seeing progress. The only other tip I’ve got for you, is if she’s really not taking the teat at all and getting really upset - try breast feeding first, but not a full feed and then topping her up with a bit of the bottle. This way she won’t be extremely hungry and stressed when introduced to it. I started doing this just with 1oz at a time so I wasn’t wasting milk and kept increasing it from there :)

Is it teething? My boy was the same until we gave him a cold bottle and he drank the lot with no fuss. I think the warm bottle was sore on his tender gums.

ah that’s useful
To know thank you! I’ve been leaving the bottle to go room temperature, so I’ll try a cold one next time as she has been quite dribbly recently so could be teething

thank you, really helpful advice. Sorry one more question - do the nabobebe bottles have different teats? I.e slow flow, medium flow etc?

mine just came with a size 1 teat and i couldn’t see any other sizes unfortunately. But you can make it faster by squeezing of course. My girl likes this as my let down is quite fast

Probably teat flow/ bottle make
Could also be that baby has a cold at this time of year and it makes breathing whilst drinking from a bottle hard? I know that’s been the case for my baby
