My daughter will be 3 in March and currently she still uses a pacifier at night. She is very much connected to it and will ask for it/wont go to sleep without it. I’m looking for tips and tricks on how to cut it out. It’s affecting her teeth now and I want it gone ASAP for her health. She has a new baby sister so I’m reluctant to do it cold turkey, more looking for a way to tell her that the binky is going away in a way she will understand.

Honestly we tried everything and cold turkey is the only thing that worked. I would get her an extra special stuffed animal that is only for night time sleeping for a bit. You could have a nice little box that you have her put them in to give to her little sister when she is born. It will be a few rough nights but instead of giving her the pacifier you would remind her that they are going to her little sister and give her her stuffed animal. We made a big deal out of putting our stuffy in the window for sunshine in the morning and reading stories with it at night to make it feel special. When her sister comes just remind her that pacifiers are for babies. If she need oral stimulation you could also provide age appropriate teethers that will still give her the stimulation she is seeking.

I snipped the nipple part so there was a hole & this made my son feel weird when sucking. Literally within 24 hours he gave up on it cos everytime he’d go for the dummy thinking it’s gonna be different he was shocked to see there’s still a hole in it & just kept throwing it out

I’d suggest either snip a bit off or literally cut it in half & act confused, I’m sure when she’s gonna put it in her mouth she’s gonna end up throwing it back out coz it’s gonna be too weird for her, see what happens from there. Keep offering the snipped dummy/pacifier to her so she knows that’s the only one she’s gonna be getting

We used the Frida baby pacifier weaning system with our daughter when she was 18 months old and it was awesome she has never gone back after a week of using that system

Thanks for all these ideas!! Sounds like cutting it might be the best place to start

We are about to have a visit from the dummy fairy! Good luck!
