I’m a bit confused, the uber I got last week would not let me sit with my baby unless I had a car seat. The other day I got another uber and he didn’t even bat an eyelid to me not having a car seat.
So does my baby need to be in a car seat in an uber or not? What is the law?

Surely you should want your baby in a car seat whether the driver cares or not?

I’ve got an uber a few times with my LG and I always bring her car seat. I just drop them a message once the car has been assigned so they know to pull over properly so I can install it. I have found the driver I have had to be really helpful and friendly and put the pram part in the boot for me as well. Xx

From what I know, it is illegal to be driving in a car with a baby under the age of 3 without a car seat. For the safety of your child, regardless of whether it's an Uber or your own car or a short journey, ALWAYS put your baby in a car seat.

I’ve heard that Ubers/cabs can travel with a baby if they are in a baby carrier but even that doesn’t seem safe to me. Definitely can’t just sit in your lap. A car seat seems the safest option
