UK - How much does a baby cost a month?

Planning ahead for hopefully a year of mat leave. I've cancelled subscriptions and looking through my bills to make any cut backs. I'm planning to breastfeed, so that cuts down formula, spends I have in my head per month
-nappies (how many packets)
-wipes
-Bath care
-possible baby class
-food when weaning
What else am I forgetting???
Thanks for any advice ❤️

When he was small we’d go through 10 nappies a day on average - now he’s older around 5/6. The cost depends on which brand you use as they vary massively.

Wipes we average around 3 packs a week- we use Aldi water wipes which are like 75p a pack or something similar but we also use wipes for fingers/ faces etc.

Young babies don’t need any bath products it’s actually better for their skin without.

Food we did baby led weaning so no extra cost really he just ate a small portion of what we eat. Now he’s 14 months we buy some toddler snacks and extra fruit but it depends what you eat as a family currently.

I’d say think of the costs as they grow with as a high chair, new car seat, a cot/ cot bed, the ever changing wardrobe particularly in the first year.

We always got most of his clothes from Vinted and sold the ones he’d grown out of so his clothes almost paid for themselves!

High chairs the Ikea one is like £19 cheap and does the job! Plus everywhere you go has them

So baby is familiar.

We go to water babies swimming lessons for £21 a week. They’re expensive but at 14 months he can kick to the surface, get to the edge of the pool and hold on and loves the water so worth every penny for us. I’m still breastfeeding so used the child benefit money I would have spent on formula and justified the cost that way!

A baby really can be as cheap or expensive as you want them to be.

I think the bigger costs come as they get a bit older and go to school etc x

Currently using baby’s size 0s so every 2/3 days he costs me £5. No milk costs as I’m breastfeeding for now.

When he’s bigger I’ll move onto the nappies I used on his sister so £20 a month for Aldi nappies. If he moves to formula it’s a can a week so £50 a month.

Once he’s weaning it’s just bits of our food but if you want to try new flavours and get some purées to have fun, they are a few quid from Aldi or Ella’s. It’s 1/2 a day alongside milk.

The biggest costs are baby 1, getting a cot, a pram, bottles. After that you just reuse for baby 2.

Let family/friends buy them clothes as they will anyway and then you’ll have tons. Just invest in some nice vests for baby and muslin clothes as they will go through them often xx

As for bath care, join the parenting club at boots. You’ll get free avenno baby wash, MAM bottles, breast pads and other things at different development stages. You’ll also get 8 boots points per £1 spend and get offers on the app for weaning food, medical stuff and baby wash

Toddlers

How often are your toddlers asking for food? My oldest who is 3 just finished a whole plate of food and not even 10 minutes later he’s requesting more food. I know he’s going through a growth spurt, but how do you respond to this.

Is this normal?

Is it just my husband that does this? He is able to work from home via his computer and in the mornings and evenings he is on there doing his job. When he is done for the day he tends to stay in the room and either play video games or watch something. He will occasionally come out and play with the girls for a few minutes and that’s it but when I really need him he says he is busy. My daughters are both 1 year old now and I am just wondering how much involvement should he have with them now?
Idk if this is the norm or not…..

Saying NO to buying toys etc

5 year old is getting really envious of others. He is obsessed with items that other kids have at school. I am pestered daily to buy these things in a different style when we already have 3 others. I have seen parents just buying stuff their kid likes which I don't necessarily agree with even when i can afford it. How do you deal with it?

Identity crisis?

Am I the only sahm who feels like they have lost their identity??? I don’t make money for my family, when I used to make great money. But I refuse to drop my under a year old baby off with strangers.
My husband works so much. But I have no control over bringing in money and I’m a control freak type of person! I feel l like I’m losing my grip because we are kind of broke, but day care would only eat up my income anyways! So what’s the point. I’m a workaholic and now I’m just a twitching bum.
I wish I could work from home but so far that’s a fake dream. I’m almost 9 months pp, and I just need to know these awful mood swings and depression will end soon! Send wine!
