Are your 3 year olds forward or rear facing in the car now?

Before you come at me, I know rear facing is safest for as long as possible. I’m just more curious due to a discussion with my hubby as we need a new car seat.

Rear facing until they Max the height of weight limit extended rear facing is the safest for our babies

Avatar

Rear-facing until reaches safe weight and height to go in a high back booster with the adult belt. Good few years to go as we have an extended rear-facing seat, Axkid Move that rear-faces up to 25kg ☺️ about 125cm...

Avatar

We will be permanently forward facing soon, our current seat is max weight 18kg and max height 105cm, my son is 101cm and 17.5kg. He doesn't like being rear facing anymore, he honestly looks uncomfortable because our seat isn't designed for extended rear facing and complains of feeling sick travelling backwards. The next size seat for us is a forward facing backed booster seat using the adult belt x

😬😬😬😬

Rear facing. Bought her a new car seat couple of months ago due to her maxing out her joie ispin 360. She has a 36kg one so her also high centile baby brother can go into it when she outgrows it and it'll last him until safe hbb age 😊

Avatar

what?

Avatar

please don't put your 3 year old FF. His bones are not strong enough to withstand the adult belt and his head is still heavier than the rest of the body. 4.5 years minimum, preferably 5/6 years 😬😬😬 safety is more important.

Avatar

my choice as his mum is the most important☺️

Avatar

@Hannah love this! Which seat did you get? ☺️

Avatar

safety is more important 👏🏼 always.

Avatar

if i want to put my child "at risk" (in your opinion), that's my issue not yours. Like the original post said, don't come at people who forward face, I know all the info about rear facing but I do what works for me and my family. My child, my choice.

Avatar

😬😬 yikes... car seat safety isn't a matter of opinion, its a fact...so you rather have it be convenient than safe... also, there are rules to FF as well. There has to be a minimum 55cm survival gap from the back of car seat to the back of passenger seat... RF is 100% safer..... yikes...

Avatar

go and look after your own child, have a nice night☺️

Avatar

I do by keeping her rear-facing to keep her as safe as possible until her wee bones are strong enough 💪🏻

Avatar

this is actually sad how much effort you are putting into trying to mum shame those that choose to forward face their kids🤪

Avatar

Forward facing over here she was 3 in September, we have been forward facing for a while

Avatar

please educate yourself. Car seat safety isn't mum shaming, doll 😘 if you get triggered over proof and getting educated caz you are going to do something that puts your child in more danger and then parading it about like "oh well, my choice" then well deal with it. Just caz its legal, doesn't make it safe. That's why car seat specialists exist to educate people to keep children safe

Avatar

you're missing the point, I don't need to educate myself, I am well aware of all of the information regarding extended rear facing but I just don't choose to do it. So I'm not triggered by that, I'm triggered by the likes of you who feel the need to push all of this down people's throats when it does not effect you at all. So yeah I will "deal with it" and continue to "parade about" saying its my choice because it is😅.

Avatar

and the rest of the mums in this group that have selected that they forward face their children will no doubt agree!

Avatar

not missing anything lmao. A 3 year old recently died in a car crash due to her mum putting her forward facing too early. This was like a month or 2 ago in England. So if this doesn't scare you or anybody else wanting to FF, then well I don't know. Just have to hope to god you don't end up in a crash that will put your little one at risk. I rather know that I've done everything to keep my child safe and hopefully many more by spreading safe information. But yea, it is your choice whether you put your child at risk or not.

Avatar

phew, we got there in the end🤪😴

Avatar

@Sophie got where? That you are making the choice to put your child in danger. Honestly the law can't change quick enough for it to be illegal to forward face children under 4.5 years old.

I got the axkid movekid. We got two so we have one in my car and one in my dads car as he has her weekly when I'm back at work off maternity next month and when my nephew and cousins daughter who are 3 and 4 are in his car they will use the same seat as he doesn't want them forward facing in his car even though they do in their parents car x

Avatar

movekid is great 😍 those new seats are amazing. Wish I could get the Axkid One, especially the new ones in pink or blue

Avatar

We have the blue. I loved the colour and it was cheaper than the other colours! Win win x

Avatar

@Hannah the blue one is just incredible

Avatar

My 4½yo is still comfortably RF and will be for at least another 1½-2 yrs 🙂 come August I'll have a 5yo, 2½yo and newborn all RF in my Focus, and also in husband's Touran

Hiya what’s the best car seat to buy for extended rear facing? I’m not going to lie my son is forward facing in a joie signature chair because he didn’t fit his car seat anymore but I didn’t realise the extent of what it can cause, so happy to rear face him he is very tall 99tg centile is there any car seats out there I can buy please? 🙏

Avatar

@Rachel we have the axkid movekid that lasts until 36kg as my daughter is high centile but my baby has been between 92-99% for height and weight so we got a 36kg so it would last him until a safe high back booster age when my 3yr old outgrows it and it's a more compact ERF seat than some others x

Avatar

amazing I’ll take a look at that today thank you so much just found it on John Lewis and I get discount too thank you 🤩.

Avatar

If you follow an ERF Facebook group there'll be lots of info on them and if you use the search bar you can see posts and comments relating to certain car seats and even cars like which fit better in certain cars too x

Avatar

They have retailers who are the admin and if you buy through them they give fit checks and advice. We used to local one to us and she even gave a fit check based on a photo of my baby in a spin carseat that we didn't purchase from her x

Avatar

thank you so much I’ll do that xx

I am forward facing my 3.4 month old is the size of a 5 year old and the weight of thar he's on the 95th lines for his height he is also Motion sickness so rare facing isn't 4 him and since we turned him they been less sickness and less working him self up coz he can't see anything. Plus my car is old so doesn't have isfix so brought best car seat he his nearly ready 4 a new car seat as he at the height and nearly weight 4 his and will be moving in to an heigh back buster seat very soon.

Avatar

The ERF are seat belt fit not isofix anyway. My 3yr old is in 5-6yr clothes and is 18kg and still has a mirror on the back of the headrest so she sees everything anyway and we've never had a problem and she's never complained as its all she knows x

Avatar

My eldest is still rear facing in an acid minikid, he’s 6 in Feb. That’s when we’re moving to forward facing.

When do things get easier?

As we entered the 9-12 month stage, my son started crawling and pulling himself up. He also became more clingy and does not play alone, still doesnt sleep through the night, and this week has been sick (so EVERYTHING amplified). I am tired and overwhelmed. Please lie and tell me things get better. 🥺

Colostrum storing?

Has anyone successfully extracted colostrum before the baby’s born? Apparently it gets produced from 16w pregnant and you can start storing it in the freezer but I’m 34w looking at my nipples and the syringes on amazon wondering how it works?? Like what did you use and did it hurt? 🥲

4 month bed time

What time do you put your babies to bed?
What time do you start your 'routine?'
My LO currently goes to bed around 10.30pm, and I know i need to start bringing it forward. Everytime ive tried, it takes longer for my LO to settle.
We are exclusively breastfeeding. Any advice Mamas?

Combi feeding advice

Has anyone gone from EBF to combi feeding? Currently do one bottle of EBM per night and they one half formula half breast milk mixed in the day. The other times she still feeds on me. Ideally I want to feed all day via bottle and all night with breast. She’s 7 weeks and takes a bottle well, how long should I leave it before adding another bottle to her daily routine?

Baby losing weight

Hi all, it's been a long time since I had a baby (my son is 15!). My daughter is 10 days old and was 9lb born, she has since lost weight at every appointment and is at a 12% loss. I am breast feeding every two hours for over an hour and topping her up every feed. I pump and can get 60ml in 10 minutes so I know my supply is okay. Anyone had this before? Can give me some tips? I currently feel like I'm letting my baby down.
