I knew a couple of Gabriel’s growing up. Never heard anyone say anything derogatory and they liked their names

I know a Gabriel. As far as I know no one ever made fun of it in that way. I never thought of it sounding like that until now honestly. I think you are overthinking a bit but I get you, I was so worried about giving my son a name that could be made fun of. People made fun of my name a lot and it sucked.

I don’t think the word gay is bandied around as an insult in the playground now, unlike when we were growing up. I would use the name!

The only Gabriel I’ve been aware of was an Irish tv presenter in the 90s and he shortened his own name to Gay Byrne. So to me there is a link but never heard anything negative suggested by it

Bullying unfortunately is one of those things that you will never predict the reason someone tries to bully. I'd say unless a name is really out there then go for it, anything could be turned into a reason to taunt something if the wrong person comes about

People will bully others for just about anything. So you unless it’s something wild I would name Your baby whatever you want. I think it’s a beautiful name

My full name is Virginia, I went by that in school as a kid and got called vir-gina pronounced like vagina by the boys in my class, it was humiliating and I hated my name but as an adult now, it didn't matter. Both of my parents have passed and I now love my name. They chose it because they loved how it sounded and they felt it had a very pure and good sound to it. If you love the name you're considering, go for it! If kids want to, they will find a way to tease about anything!

I knew a Gabriel. Cute kid. He was only 3/4, so I don't think he was getting teased.

Also, if you don't love Gabriel just go with Gabe. Nothing wrong with not using a name you don't love.

This name is also on my list! Beautiful name. I also considered this but then I thought -things are a lot different to when we were growing up when “gay” was often used as an insult. Also kids can be brutal 😅 if they want to think of a name to make fun of someone they could literally make up anything. Don’t overthink it x

Love it! I’d use Gabriel nn Gabe. Not sure where you live but I don’t think calling people gay is a dis anymore finally

We have a few Gabriels at my school and as far as I'm aware none of them are bullied for the name. I will also say that kids will make stupid names out of literally anything in the dumbest ways so unless it's blatantly obvious ( like name your kid Willy Wonder or something) then go for the name you love!

My stepdad’s name is Gabren and he goes be Gabe, just another option
