Group b strep

I am positive for group b strep, I have been told that I will receive antibiotics during labour for this but something is telling me I should go for a section instead just to fully prevent any risks as it’s causing me a lot of anxiety. What are your thoughts??

How did you find out? Out of curiosity

@Alice I had a swab taken due to having green discharge which on the chance they found strep on the swab

I found out I’m also positive for group b strep last week too 🙃 just another thing to worry about but unusually they provided a really helpful PDF leaflet which made me feel a bit better for now. I’m waiting to speak to my midwife at our appointment next week to discuss it all.

The risk is really small with antibiotics in labour, I think it’s something like 1 in 4000 for the strep to pass to baby and far less for any further issues to progress. They will be very cautious if you have tested positive and keep baby in if needed to monitor x

I tested positive really early on in my pregnancy and was given antibiotics at the time but as soon as my waters go, i'll need another round. Once they detect it, it doesn't necessarily mean it will still be there during labour but they are cautious just in case. I was induced during my last pregnancy so was really worried I wouldn't be able to go to the birth centre again but my midwife said they can give the antibiotics there so that's what I'm aiming for. I also have a sticker on my notes highlighting the fact so it's not missed in labour x
