The health visitor told me not to introduce a dummy until at least 6 weeks, but she’s really struggling at the moment so would love to be able to help her get a little comfort!
Please could people share their experiences of breast fed babies and dummies before the six week mark? Thank you!

My baby is 8 days old, I tried breastfeeding, but she wouldn't latch.. I express my milk and bottle feed it to her alongside formula as the expressed milk only covers 1 or 2 feeds. Dummy introduced from day 3 as she has been restless at night for the first few nights. She only uses it when she's really struggling to relax, not continuously. Mostly if she can't settle at night.

I've been using a dummy since day 2 or 3 I think, at first I was very cautious but he still has a good latch and dummy is used to help soothe to sleep after a feed. Haven't seen hv yet, she due around tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure along as they still have a good latch it should be OK

I’ve breastfed both of my LO and introduced dummy from day 1, haven’t experienced any problems from it. This time round she mainly has it in the pram, for some reason won’t settle in it without, and occasionally at night time to settle in crib but most the time she spits it out when realising it’s not a boob 😅
I think the important thing is just recognising the hunger cues and not delaying feeds by distracting with a dummy.
What brands of dummy do people find work well to avoid nipple confusion?

I’ve been using mam comfort so far, but seen a recommendation for Nuk so have just ordered these to try as we lost one of the mam ones.

My little one won’t take a dummy which isn’t a bad thing but I sometimes wish he would at night when he wants to stay attached to my boob for comfort

My little one is five weeks and we’ve just introduced a dummy, just to try help in the night as she’s waking every hour or so. It’s not made a massive difference as she does realise it’s not a boob and spitting out. Although it is useful for example today a GP appointment to soothe her, I was very cautious as well, but it doesn’t seem to affect breastfeeding. Especially if you get the four week mark already.
