What do you consider “pushing 40”

Last summer I referred to myself as “pushing 40” when I was approaching my 38th bday. The person I was talking to said “that’s not pushing 40.”

Today, I referred to myself as “pushing 40” because my 39th bday is in the summer. Again, the person I was talking to (a different person this time) said “that’s not pushing 40.”

So, like, what is pushing 40 then?

lol it is always going to depend on how old you are! I’m 26 so I’ll consider it “pushing 40” when I’m 36 😂 then after that it will keep going until I’m 40 but if I’m 39 and someone younger says it I’m going to say you have no idea 😂

Avatar

I’m 36, so not 37 😂. I won’t be talking about 40 until I’m 39.

I am over 40 and I considered myself “pushing 40” at 37.

Agree with I would say pushing 40 would be from 37. Sounds like whoever you spoke to sounded insecure about aging or perhaps it was a harsh reminder to them that others might think they too were pushing 40 if they’re close in age to you?

I turned 34 in November 2024 and I remember I was going back and forth with a mom on this app. And she tried to take a jabt at me by saying “I was pushing 40” the woman was in her 20s and I laughed cuz I don’t understand what’s the big deal of pushing 40. She said that like it was supposed to be an insult or something. Bt I’ll be considering myself pushing 40 in abt 2 yrs when I’m 36/37. Right now I’d consider myself pushing 37 lol

at 26 do u think ur pushing 30?

Avatar

I would say 37

My brain math
You’ve got decades 30-40
Broken up every 2.5 years
Mid 30s would be like 32.5 closer to 33 to 37.5 to 38
You’ve got “pushing 40s” is anything after 37.5 lmao
But you probably wouldn’t say it on your 37th birthday but it’s right around the corner!!
🤣
Early 30s and late 30s (do people say that? Idk) I’d think 30-34 and 35-39

I’m laughing at 34 being pushing 40, you are still very much a young woman! A lot of these youngins have a real fear of aging, hence why you see so many of them getting fillers and face lifts before they’re even 30!

Quite sad really, aging will always be a privilege not given to many.

Anyway, 40 isn’t even that old. Not especially when you think more and more people are living to their 90s and beyond. It’s not even halfway through life yet.

Avatar

the first person to say it was older than me (50ish) and the one today was 34 going on 35.

Avatar

I don’t think 40 is old. I’m looking forward to my 40s.

Avatar

im telling u, I literally chuckled so hard cuz this mama thot she ate by age shaming me. And also it was my 1st age shame “insult” and I couldn’t believe it was coming from a young woman in her early 20s. lol bt then I remembered what it was like to be that age & yes a lot of them don’t want to age past 25. I don’t understand what is wrong abt being “old”. Aging is like the one thing everyone has in common cuz of time. So it’s certainly a blessing not a curse. It’s the inevitable. Very humbling. I agree with u, a privilege not given to many!

A day before 39. 😂🤣

Avatar

I would say 38 as well

Avatar

I think 39 because it's the age "pushing" against 40 🤷‍♀️

Avatar

39 is pushing 40, no other age.

Avatar

I'm 32 and say I'm in my early 30s I'll be pushing 40 when I'm 38 as it'll only be 2 years away that's how I view it anyways

Avatar

definitely not, at 26 I’m not even thinking about 30 😂

Avatar

Now I tell people I’m pushing 40, I am currently 37 will be 38 in July

Unexpected c -section

I labored for weeks, went into active labor for 20 hours, pushed for 3 hours and failed to have a vaginal birth. They said my pelvis was too small for her big head. I personally think I wasn’t dilated enough and they wanted to rush me. Our bodies are made for birth. If you can afford a doula get one, and spend the last few weeks stretching, drinking okra water, and having sex!

I didn’t feel anything while in surgery, and my scar is really small. Healing the first couple weeks was brutal, but you get through it. Ask for help! Prepare meals, order meals, or have someone cook for you. It’s been 3 months and the scar is hardly noticeable! Baby is healthy, and happy❤️ that’s all that matters!

On the final stretch.. How we feeling ladies?

Not long left to go for our May babies ladies!!! I’m 35 weeks now and I’m honestly so over being pregnant at this point everything hurts, I’m restless and always uncomfortable and quite frankly just not enjoying these last few weeks at alllllll! Baby girl has been head down since 32 weeks and always pressing on my bladder so the constant peeing is another added extra and don’t even get me started on the lightning crotch!!!

How is everyone else feeling?

(Cheeky little bump update) people keep saying it looks like my bump has dropped but I really don’t see or feel like it has at all so not sure what others are seeing 🤷🏽‍♀️

C section overnight stay and a toddler

I will have an elective c section for my second baby (same as my first).

With my first, my partner stayed with me in the hospital overnight and helped me a lot with the baby so I had a pretty smooth recovery and was up and running 5 days postpartum.

Now, we need to decide if we should ask family members to come over (from abroad) and help with our toddler or we try to do the coordination/ management ourselves.

The hospital is only a 10 minute drive from our place and during the day my toddler will be at nursery (and my partner will be with me). I think I can handle 1-2 nights by myself at the hospital with the baby but I’m little concerned how would I lift the baby on day 1 given I will have a catheter. I don’t want to solely be relying on midwives. And if I fall asleep during the night, I’m also a bit worried about nobody looking after the baby.

You would think I would remember how it was the first night with my first but it’s all a blur.

What would you recommend if you had 2 c-sections and the same situation? Did you ask family to help?

Thanks!

MRI

I know this is probably going to be a stupid post lol but genuinely just need to know. I have the possibility I could be pregnant but Im only 12dpo and nothing is showing on a test yet. I didn’t get one till later on with my first so my doctors have told me to wait at least a week if I miss my period. Im going for an MRI and don’t know whether to mention it or not because I desperately need one. Will they actually be able to tell on the MRI anyway if they do it? They are looking at my ovaries and my womb so looking at the right place for it. So basically if it doesn’t get mentioned it means Im not right? I know this probably sounds really silly but yeah curious.

Gestational diabetes makes no sense

Ngl, as someone who trained and worked the medical field (was a paramedic) you'd think it all makes sense but nope, none, nothing, I'm mind blown. Super hungry last night, made tacos, I ate 4! I know awful but you know what, tested 5.0mmol... over 13 hours since I last ate, had a piece of toast and a pear, please tell me why, I got 9.0mmol!! My fasting reading was 5.4mmol (daily result for me) I am absolutely mind blown, given up trying to understand it, wake me up when its the 10th of June please 😂

Midwive demeanour

Please I hope that know one takes this as a dig at the profession. Like all jobs there's good and bad staff.

I've been to my 2nd midwife appointment this week and she was incredibly cold, borderline miserable and I left with raised anxiety and felt that this was going to be an interesting few months.

This is my second, my first time round midwives were mixed but the initial visits never this way.

I can't change as i live rurally with very low birth rate and so this is it.

I'm guessing how can i not let it affect me so much, or maybe is this just the way the profession is and the Call the Midwive days are long gone 😅😢
