I understand that topics like these can evoke strong opinions. My goal is to foster an engaging and respectful conversation among moms about the media our children consume.

Not sure why a clear parody would change my views on the content we engage with for our kids 😂

You should check out the documentary about behind the scenes on Barney. Barney had a separate voice actor from the guy who wore the big purple dinosaur suit. And the guy in the dino suit was a tantric sex guru 😂

Children's content creators, teachers, etc, are allowed to have lives outside of the content they create and their jobs.

The content my child is viewing is the same - he doesn’t know what they do in their personal lives so idc.

Avatar

oh for sure, i totally get that creators have lives outside their roles — the Barney doc was wild! i think it’s less about them and more about being mindful of the messaging and energy in the content itself, parody or not. kids absorb everything

I don't have either tok or insta, what's the issue?

Druski’s parody of Ms. Rachel’s children’s content has sparked controversy, with critics arguing that his exaggerated portrayal of a children’s educator crosses the line into mockery rather than satire. Some parents and educators feel that his loud and slang-filled imitation undermines the educational value and gentle approach that figures like Ms. Rachel represent. Supporters of Druski contend that his parody is a humorous exaggeration meant to entertain, not to offend. This debate highlights the fine line comedians navigate when parodying beloved public figures, especially those involved in children’s education.

that's the kind of logic I was taught growing up Mormon, where flirting was literally just as bad as having pre martial sex, because flirting was "Sexual Energy eXchange" aka sex.

I fully believe people can bring positive energy and intentions to the content they create regardless of what's going on behind the scenes in their real lives. Robin Williams is a great example. He struggled with depression and drug use, but created some iconic kids stuff.

Avatar

a comedian made a parody of Ms Rachel where they're doing drugs behind the scenes and saying things like "fuck them kids" 😂 If I were Druski, I'd be worried about getting sued lmao. There's an art to parody and his was too close to the original intellectual property, which could open him up to lawsuits

Avatar

I get where you’re coming from about strict interpretations of behaviors like flirting in certain religious communities. It’s true that some groups emphasize maintaining boundaries to the point where even innocent actions are viewed as significant. It’s all in perception.

Regarding Robin Williams, I agree with your point. This underscores the complexity of human experiences and how individuals can contribute positively to society, even while facing personal struggles.

Avatar

ah. That's a tough one. I guess since I subscribe to the idea that either everything is fine to make fun of, or nothing is, then I can't really make a judgement on someone for a comedy sketch. I think I just wouldn't take it seriously, though I could see how it's more a personal attack on an individual because they are parodying the people behind the scenes and not just the content itself.

That said where kids are involved some discretion should be called for. The guy who played Earnest was a chain smoker, but he always made a point never to do so in public or where kids could see him, because he wanted to present a good imagine for kids and didn't want to give them the wrong impression, even outside of his media.

Avatar

I found it to be funny! And my husband and I nearly shat our pants (and we love ms Rachel).

Parents need to fucking chill. Your kids aren’t watching this. This clearly is content for adults as most 3 year old aren’t on social media nor know who he is.

Avatar

to clarify, the "Ms Rachel" figure in the parody video didn't engage in any untoward behavior herself, It's sort of a "by association" thing

Avatar

It's satire honestly and my kids still watch blippi despite the stuff he's engaged in. I think we forget these people are humans first and ultimately noone is perfect

Avatar

This is just silly. Isn’t Blippi an ex-porn star? Are you going to make sure no school teachers drink alcohol or go to strip clubs? Will you stop your child from playing with another child at the park if their babysitter is in a crop top? If someone’s personal life doesn’t affect their work, it shouldn’t really matter. It’s up to the parent to choose to listen to their intuition if something doesn’t feel right. Same with anything else in this world, parents should just do what they feel is best. We are given motherly instincts for a reason. Most Ms.Rachel watching families support her age appropriate content and don’t care what she does behind the camera, because it simply doesn’t matter until she is trying to negatively influence children. For anyone that watched Victorious growing up, were you affected by the actors drinking or doing drugs off camera? Probably not, because it wasn’t really reflected in their content.

Avatar

I'm a little confused as these comments seem to be suggesting that the Ms Rachel crew ACTUALLY behaves like this off set. Which, even then I guess it wouldn't matter (I'd be disappointed but if it doesn't affect their content, then so what), but it's a parody, so why should they be judged on something that is parodying them?

Is this normal?

Is it just my husband that does this? He is able to work from home via his computer and in the mornings and evenings he is on there doing his job. When he is done for the day he tends to stay in the room and either play video games or watch something. He will occasionally come out and play with the girls for a few minutes and that’s it but when I really need him he says he is busy. My daughters are both 1 year old now and I am just wondering how much involvement should he have with them now?
Idk if this is the norm or not…..

Tablet for kids

Alright don’t need any negative Nancy’s telling me not to get my 2yo a tablet so if that’s what your gunna do please don’t participate in my poll.

We’re about to move cross country 3+ day trip and my 2yo and 9m hate the car I’m talking scream their heads off till they are out of their seats. We’ve already changed car seats and it didn’t help so I’d like to at least have one entertained and sit next to baby and try and distract her or put her to sleep. Our new car has tvs but since they are rear faced my 2yo can’t see it.

Debating getting her a tablet or dvd player right now on long car rides I end up giving her my phone because I get so overwhelmed sitting in between both of them screaming and crying.

And yes I do bring different toys I bring snacks I play songs try to distract her other ways but for the sake of not losing my mind on this move I think this is best.

-A very overwhelmed and anxious to move mama 😓

Daycare?

Thoughts on daycare?? Truly, I am SCARED to be leaving my kid for daycare. I literally do not trust anyone, not even family (they haven’t given me a reason it’s just trust issues on my end, you never know). He’s turning 3 and I’ve been a sahm the whole time but tbh my man doesn’t make enough for us to move out somewhere more calm . We live in a ‘not so safe’ area in LA and I’m just not used to living here so I just want us to give my son a better life and in order to speed up the process I would have to work.. I do lashes at home and I’d be open to take new clients so I wouldn’t have to look for work but I’m just scared to lose my license 😭
