I am allergic to penicillin but I was gbs positive so they gave me a different antibiotic
So was I.
I was and got antibiotics but only during my 9th out of 10 pregnancies and I have more than a few of my children with autism. My youngest does seem to have more difficulties than the others, but it's hard to say yet since he's only about to turn 2 years in a couple of months. 🤷‍♀️
What is gbs positive?
Yes but allergic to penicillin so I was given a different antibiotic. I ended up having an emergency c section so I don’t know if I even needed the antibiotic because I’m pretty sure it only gets passed onto baby if you give birth vaginally 🤷🏻‍♀️
@Hira S Group B Strep. It’s a common bacteria that lives in the reproductive system and GI tract. They test you around 35weeks gestation, if you test positive you receive antibiotics in your IV during birth because it can be passed from mother to child during delivery and be dangerous for newborn
Okay. I should’ve clarified. The antibiotic doesn’t matter. I never should’ve said “penicillin” It’s more so about the bacteria. Was just curious because I read somewhere this could be another reason aside from it being hereditary. Now we will have to see what RFK jr says in September when he discovers more information.
GBS can be passed from person to person just like any other bacteria. So kissing, sharing cutlery or even just close physical contact. I was told I probably contracted it because of my job, but you can really get it anywhere, was that your question?
Oh yes there have been studies. But all reliable studies have been on rats, not humans. They have found a decrease in white matter more in male rats pups than female if the mother is infected with GBS regardless if the bacteria has been passed during birth or not. But when human women have been studied all results have been mixed or inconclusive. I did just try to look for any peer reviews research papers focused on human studies but I can’t find anything unfortunately. It seems you’re right, it’s still a waiting game to see if anyone finds this important enough to do any studies on that are backed up.
