I’m looking for a few tips if possible for my interview tomorrow. Irs working as a receptionist in a secondary school. (Currently a gp receptionist). I really want this job, I’ve always wanted to work in schools and always wanted a career, especially mental health working with kids so it’s a stepping stone for me. I have two children of my own so would be also nice to only work during term time. I need some really good tips to make me shine please 🙏 just to note I have a psychology degree and also a postgraduate certificate in mental health so I’m hoping I stand a good chance (I know it’s only a receptionist role for now but I’m hoping I may be able to go on to do more).

I would look at the STAR method to help you structure answering questions. Make sure you know what's in the job description and how your experience and skills relate. Remember to breathe and don't rush. Good luck! X

I work in mental health on a mother and baby unit it’s amazing. Good luck with ur interview, just be yourself, smile etc.
ask questions. I was a wreck for my interview but luckily I smashed it second time lucky.

I can’t give any tips but I have a gp receptionist interview next week can you give me any tips please ☺️

100% the STAR method of answering questions. Try to get some answers in your head (using the STAR method) of common questions they could ask, so eg why do you think you would be a good fit for this role? Or what do you think could be challenging in the role? Have you ever dealt with a hard situation within customer service? Tell us about a time you went above and beyond for a customer? Those sort of questions.
Also get to understand the job description and bring the details of that into your answers. So for example if it say you will be taking calls from parents, you can make sure you tell them how you currently answer calls for current job. But just be yourself and friendly and approachable :) good luck!! X

Make sure you know how to answer a safeguarding question. It’ll be asked as standard in a school interview. Most likely to be what would you do if a child made a disclosure to you.

Thank you so much everybody you’ve been really really helpful! I’ll keep you updated on how well I do xx

yes of course send me a message and I’ll get back to you probably tomorrow evening ish 🥰 xx

Just to repeat the importance of knowing about safeguarding procedures.

Hey I did well at the start then effed up at the end when they asked me about GDPR I forgot what it meant. I’ll be surprised if I get the job I’m gutted x

Well done for getting through it! It's also about who else has applied so don't count yourself out yet. It's all good experience if nothing else. Don't be afraid to ask what something means or for more information. They should have said what GDPR stood for. It's bad form to talk in acronyms no matter how common they may be. Finger crossed for you x

UPDATE. I’ve now had an offer for another interview in a different school as a receptionist. Down the road from me 3 days a week. I know what not to eff up on now but it says there’s a task that they’ll tell me about on the day. Any ideas what it could be?

I didn’t get the job btw 😂

did you get the job?!

no I didn’t 🤣just got on at the hospital doing phlebotomy! X

oh wow even better! Well done xx

thank you!! Band 3 and 19.5 hrs a week with 4 hour shifts so ideal really! Xx

I got the job today!!!

congratulations!! X

Congratulations 🎊

Thank you so much both of you! Funny story… this job on this post emailed me yesterday asking if I was still interested and asked if I wanted to be shortlisted again. What are the chances!! Xx

Well another update - references has come back. My current manager has given me a bad reference and told them I’m unreliable and wouldn’t employ me again which has potentionally put the job on the line. All because she’s short staffed she’s done this on purpose.
