@Amy 🤔 Hummm good point. Although Google says sleep training is a good way to get through the regression.
Sleep training shouldn't start before 4 months. I would recommend not doing it during a sleep regression though as during a regression you should stick to your routine. Also not all babies go through regressions. My baby girl never had the 4 month one but had one at 8 months. I would also look at the ferber method at its a gentler form of sleep training if you need to sleep train x
It is not recommended to sleep train until 5 months and 15 lbs. Sleep training before the 4 month regression isn't really how it works. By 3 months you can start a bedtime routine and ensuring they have a consistent daytime sleep schedule. Daytime sleep is equally important to set them up for night time success. Make sure they stock up on calories throughout the day to limit night time waking. You can also support them with other methods besides feeding to help them go to sleep. The SITBACK method from Taking Cara Babies worked wonders for us. There are also a lot of other sleep training methods that you should look into before CIO. For most people that's a method of last resort. I would research it heavily and it's effect before you jump to that.
You really don’t want to give your baby love and comfort but let them cry their little hearts out? Have you done any research at all it’s so bad for their emotional wellbeing and nervous system. You should be pure comfort to your child their entire life especially when a baby. But each to their own.
Firstly, sleep training, even the most brutal kind, is not recommended before 4 months minimum. Secondly, even those who advocate CIO, acknowledge that you will have to redo it every time the child has a developmental leap. Personally, I avoided it like the plague - too many negative consequences for me. But if you insist on doing it, please wait until baby is older. 3 months is too young.
it’s biologically healthy and normal for a baby to wake through the night, especially a 3 month old. frequent wake ups actually reduces risk of sids. their bellies are still small and need to eat frequently. and not all babies have a 4 month regression, even if they do it’s a normal part of development. regressions suck for awhile but it’s temporary
If you are on FB , I would suggest these 2 groups; ‘respectful sleep training/learning’ and ‘evidence based sleep training’ and you’ll get a lot more positive help and feedback there 👍 A baby of 3 months may need a night feed still so best to get that cleared with your paediatrician as well 😊
@Nicola yesss! I love the evidence based sleep training group. I’ve learned soooo much. And the guides for transitioning naps has been a life saver!
I did the CIO method after a year of trying every other method the cry it out method was miserable to go through but not as miserable as being sleep deprived cause you get 3 hours of sleep for a year. Although I don’t think I would start it so young
@Evelina yes yes yes this. There is SO much research that it is detrimental to a child’s future mental health outcomes. The book “Nurture Revolution” changed my life ❤️❤️
Abuse & neglect
Babies that young only cry when they need something. At 3 months their stomach is around the size of a large egg and can only hold about 5 oz. Most babies still need to wake up to feed at night throughout infancy. You can’t train them to not be hungry.
The cry it out method works by teaching babies you won't be there for them when they need you. It doesn't teach them how to selth sooth just that there is no point in crying because noone will come. It can also course sleep and mental problems later. Babies aren't supposed to be able to sleep through at 3 months, please consider just giving your baby time and love. I understand that being sleep deprived is hard and society expects too much of mums and therefore babies but there are other ways. Comforting your baby strengthens pathways in their brain that teach them how to selth sooth, yes it takes time but is kinder and more effective long term.
Please letting a baby cry to sleep isnt sleep training

At 3 months?? Even Ferber said not before 6months. Sheesh lol
3 months is a bit too early in my opinion. Babies at this age still need a lot of help to sleep and I’d get the 4 month regression out the way before you start any type of sleep training x
