C.I.O Sleep Training

Has the cry it out method worked for anyone when sleep training your baby?? When my LO makes 3 months, I will begin sleep training her to sleep through the night and I'm thinking of the CIO method. Just wondering if this has actually worked for anyone before??

3 months is a bit too early in my opinion. Babies at this age still need a lot of help to sleep and I’d get the 4 month regression out the way before you start any type of sleep training x

Avatar

🤔 Hummm good point. Although Google says sleep training is a good way to get through the regression.

Sleep training shouldn't start before 4 months. I would recommend not doing it during a sleep regression though as during a regression you should stick to your routine.

Also not all babies go through regressions. My baby girl never had the 4 month one but had one at 8 months. I would also look at the ferber method at its a gentler form of sleep training if you need to sleep train x

It is not recommended to sleep train until 5 months and 15 lbs. Sleep training before the 4 month regression isn't really how it works.
By 3 months you can start a bedtime routine and ensuring they have a consistent daytime sleep schedule. Daytime sleep is equally important to set them up for night time success. Make sure they stock up on calories throughout the day to limit night time waking. You can also support them with other methods besides feeding to help them go to sleep. The SITBACK method from Taking Cara Babies worked wonders for us.

There are also a lot of other sleep training methods that you should look into before CIO. For most people that's a method of last resort. I would research it heavily and it's effect before you jump to that.

Firstly, sleep training, even the most brutal kind, is not recommended before 4 months minimum.

Secondly, even those who advocate CIO, acknowledge that you will have to redo it every time the child has a developmental leap.

Personally, I avoided it like the plague - too many negative consequences for me. But if you insist on doing it, please wait until baby is older. 3 months is too young.

it’s biologically healthy and normal for a baby to wake through the night, especially a 3 month old. frequent wake ups actually reduces risk of sids. their bellies are still small and need to eat frequently.
and not all babies have a 4 month regression, even if they do it’s a normal part of development. regressions suck for awhile but it’s temporary

If you are on FB , I would suggest these 2 groups; ‘respectful sleep training/learning’ and ‘evidence based sleep training’ and you’ll get a lot more positive help and feedback there 👍
A baby of 3 months may need a night feed still so best to get that cleared with your paediatrician as well 😊

yesss! I love the evidence based sleep training group. I’ve learned soooo much. And the guides for transitioning naps has been a life saver!

I did the CIO method after a year of trying every other method the cry it out method was miserable to go through but not as miserable as being sleep deprived cause you get 3 hours of sleep for a year. Although I don’t think I would start it so young

yes yes yes this. There is SO much research that it is detrimental to a child’s future mental health outcomes. The book “Nurture Revolution” changed my life ❤️❤️

Abuse & neglect

Babies that young only cry when they need something. At 3 months their stomach is around the size of a large egg and can only hold about 5 oz. Most babies still need to wake up to feed at night throughout infancy. You can’t train them to not be hungry.

The cry it out method works by teaching babies you won't be there for them when they need you. It doesn't teach them how to selth sooth just that there is no point in crying because noone will come. It can also course sleep and mental problems later. Babies aren't supposed to be able to sleep through at 3 months, please consider just giving your baby time and love. I understand that being sleep deprived is hard and society expects too much of mums and therefore babies but there are other ways. Comforting your baby strengthens pathways in their brain that teach them how to selth sooth, yes it takes time but is kinder and more effective long term.

Do men really enjoy fellatio?

Been together more than 10 years, but it's been a while since he even seemed remotely interested in me getting on my knees, or vice versa so to speak. I think it was once last year. Must be something I am doing wrong 🤔. Generally everything else in that department is great and we have two young kids with no extra support, so it's quite surprising we can't keep our hands off each other but may need to try new things. It's basically 2 positions each time with some foreplay.

I think Motherhood has made me more bitter than I realized…

This is such a ramble but I don’t know where else to put it all.

I’m four months in and I don’t really have hobbies right now. I don’t do anything for myself except maybe doomscrolling or listening to a podcast while I breastfeed my baby. I used to craft and have game nights with friends. Activities that usually are at least 2 hour stretches. Now if I have an hour free my mind immediately goes to baby, or doing something in the house for baby.

And I thought I didn’t mind. Like I knew postpartum could be very mentally consuming. But I think it’s altering how I view people around me and it’s prodding at my relationship with my husband.

He spends most of his time making food for us, looking after our dogs, playing with the baby, ect. But he still has time for his hobby. Spends maybe an hour a night on it. Even adapted to using a bot for shopping for his hobby after a certain incident where we had to have a heart to heart after he left me home alone with the baby for hours during a busy workday (I work from home) to shop for his hobby.

And yet there’s like this little green eyed monster in me that rages every time I know he’s running off to start up the bot. Even though I’m the reason he does it this way.

We took a family trip last weekend to see his best friend and their kids and let them meet the baby. He brought the laptop. He’s always brought a laptop on trips and it’s never been a problem to me before. But one night we both woke up while the baby was still asleep, and he wandered out of the room. I tried to fall back asleep but couldn’t. So I went to the kitchen to try having something warm to drink to settle me. And he was there at the table running the bot from his laptop. I flipped out at him. But there really wasn’t reason to. It’s not like I needed help with the baby and he was ignoring me. He wasn’t avoiding our friends. He was just awake and unable to sleep and found something to do with his time. Yet my snap reaction was “why the hell would you do this on a family trip?”

I don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s the less complete sleep from baby’s middle of the night feed? My brain being just consumed by baby? Maybe I’m not as over that shopping incident as I thought? But I’m just so annoyed at his hobby right now. The green eyed monster thinks “you could be using that time differently” but realistically to do what exactly??? Stare at our baby in the dark???

I spent probably an hour apologizing to him after I snapped. And he’s of course hurt and frustrated because I said some very mean things in the moment.

I don’t want to be this jealous, angry person. But I also don’t know how to find time for myself in this right now outside of basic hygiene. It’s like I’ve forgotten how to be myself, even if just for an hour.

Maybe I need a therapist.

Vaccination advice

I’m really looking for advice and opinions on vaccines for my baby. I’m not against getting them but also just don’t feel like I know enough about them to make a decision just yet as I’ve had people say to me they don’t agree with them and they can cause issues etc… so I just want as much info as possible. What are everyone’s thoughts and experiences of vaccinating your child? I’m just interested to see everybody’s views (no judgement as I just want to know I’m doing the right thing) thank you x
