So before my son was born, I initially thought I was solely going to breastfeed him. However, when he was born at the hospital, he was having trouble latching. I am autistic (low supports needs/ “high-functioning”), but I still get overwhelmed very easily. I know the nurses at the hospital meant well and were trying to help me, but I was feeling so overwhelmed about how much information about breastfeeding they were giving me that I just shut down and gave up. It just wasn’t worth the stress for me. So fast forward to when I return home, I exclusively was pumping and giving my son my breast milk from a bottle for the first 4 weeks of his life. However, pumping every 2 to 3 hours also eventually became too much for me. So then I decided that I could split feed him my breast milk and formula. However, now that I’m pumping less, I’m barely producing any milk, so my son has pretty much only been drinking formula this past week. I know rationally I’m doing the best I can, but I can’t help but feel guilty.

My daughter’s pediatrician told me when I breast my son for only 3 months she said any amount of breast feeding is a success because baby got immunities from your milk! breastfeeding is hard I will admit it but your doing the best you can mama! And always remember your a good mama 🫶🏼

Please do not feel like a bad mom! Do babies get more immunities from breast milk absolutely but breastfeeding and pumping is NOT for every momma. You need to find what works best for you and your baby! I could not get my baby to latch so I pumped for about two months between feeding every two hours and pumping it was a lot for me as I was alone at home most the day. I do have from frozen for him when needed but I was just an enough supplier. I do not feel bad and I know my son is perfectly happy and healthy. The guilt will go away and don’t let anyone make you feel otherwise. You are doing just fine giving you baby formula and he will turn out just like any breast milk baby. Don’t let anyone momma quilt trip you into thinking that’s the only healthy way.

Girl no. Don’t feel bad. My baby is formula fed. I pumped for a little bit after she was born and then stopped. Nursing wasn’t for me at all so I never even attempted to do it. I wanted to formula feed from the beginning and was solely pumping cause I was pressured from everyone to do it. Obviously it didn’t work out and I am happy formula feeding. As long as you’re taking care of your baby you are a good mom.

Do not feel bad. A fed baby is a healthy baby. My baby has been formula fed since birth & has almost gained 5lbs from BW & almost 6 from the weight she lost after! I chose to formula feed bc I didn’t want the mental load of BF. Everyone is different but in the long run, it works out the same.

I’m going through the guilt of transitioning to all formula right now too! I had to use a nipple shield to breast feed him due to flat nipples and it as so overwhelming and he eas hardly getting anything so I stopped a little over a month in, but have always been implementing formula and pumping. Now with pumping, my supply is constantly going down (even after meeting with a lactation specialist) and I get so frustrated every time I pump because why bother? Also my son screams every time I pump, which doesn’t help. 🙃 he is now a 90% formula baby. I bet by 3 weeks I will be done completely.
Know you aren’t alone and a fed baby is a happy baby! Also I found out my mother and sister also could hardly produce any milk which led to formula pretty early on.
Your mental health matters and pumping is NOT worth risking it.

Girl I was pumping like a champ until the end of the first month. Then at some point I just wasn't which switched so quickly. My little girl refuses to latch or take bottle we had to go g tube and if I ever pump i will give her what I can but she gets formula. I know truly believe feed is best, staying consistent with feeding is better then worrying over pumping

The most important things are that baby is fed and that they have a mom who is doing well emotionally so they can be there for them. You need to do what’s best for you and for baby.

Girl, I’m also going through guilt. I breast-feed my first for six months and with this one, my delivery was so rough my milk didn’t come in for a whole 2 weeks. And he’s still supplementing with formula a lot of the time.

I still feel guilty for not being able to breastfeed and I think it’s normal. As long as the baby is fed, that’s what matters. You can only do so much. You have to take care of yourself too!
Thank you everyone for making me feel better! I’m glad I’m not the only one!
