Purées won’t help with weight gain. Their main source of calories before 1 is still breast milk/formula.If you’re worried about their weight gain speak to a GP/health visitor. I’d highly recommend waiting until 6 months when their stomach is more developed and they show all the signs of readiness.
@Coadie my hv said to wait until 6 months but his doctor wanted him to start at 4 months due to his reflux! Its so hard to know what to do x
By introducing purées won’t effect his milk intake so it will still be his main source of nutrients - my girl is on 3 meals a day and I’ve only just dropped a bottle compared to what she was on when we started weaning. I started her around 5 months and tbh I’m glad I did because her weaning journey has been amazing - some babies will be ready before some after - therefore it’s fine to do so - the guidance is AROUND 6 months not AFTER, so aslong as baby is showing signs of readiness (can sit up straight in a high chair, good head and neck control) I personally would say go for it. But before the weaning police come for me, I am not a medical professional 😂 x
@Aimee thank you! I know i wouldn’t be changing the amount of milk hes having it would just be extra! Xx
I’ve been told to start at 22 weeks due to his severe reflux so I’m doing that but only starting with one or two spoonfuls of baby porridge/rice so it can be mixed with breast milk doing that for a week then introducing a lunch the next week dinner the week after and then slowly increasing the amount he gets every week after that’s what my HV recommended and I’m going to a weaning class that they have next week so I’m prepared maybe see if you have something like that around you to get some more information on what they recommend?
I have started puree with my little girl because she was constantly being sick from reflux so I was told by my doctor to start at 4 months but I waited till 5 months and it is helping her reflux and improving having a little less milk but she only has small amount of puree once a day
Check out Charlotte Steerling Reed on how to wean your baby it’s helpful
If you’re worried about weight I’d speak to your HV about it and see if they’d recommend early weaning. Also I’ve also been told to start with breakfast, so starting with baby porridges, stuff that’s mixed with the milk xx
