Sorry for sounding naive but is this a pretty common thing do you know? I asked my mum and she didn’t have to have this when she had me or my brother
@Rebecca So your booking bloods test for your blood group and if you are Rhd negative they test for your baby's blood group to see if you will need an anti D shot later in the pregnancy (for the reason specified above by Katie) It has changed since my last pregnancy, we used to get the Anti D shot regardless if we were rhd neg blood group, but now they also test the baby's blood group to see if you would actually need it which I think is awesome!
I see so basically if the baby has the same blood type as me it means I won’t have to have an Anti D shot saving the nhs money as well I’m guessing?
They'll just take a blood sample from you (most likely from your arm) and send it to be analysed. If it shows that the baby is RhD positive then you'd get an anti-D injection to prevent your body from making antibodies against the baby
