Movements

Is anyone else getting obsessed with tracking baby’s movements? I feel like I’m making myself ill with how much I’m constantly thinking about it expecting him to move every 30 seconds and if he doesn’t then I start internally panicking that something is wrong.

I was bad with my daughter and I didn’t want it to be this way the second time round but I feel like it’s even worse this time. I don’t have any reason to worry. He is moving around and everything is ok. It’s just like my brain is telling me “are you sure you’ve felt him?” When I know I have 🫠 anyone else the same? Got any words of advice? I can’t go on another 3 months like this it’s going to drive me insane :(

I was like this with my first pregnancy and I ended up being induced because I visited maternity triage for reduced movements so much (like you said, I’d convinced myself he hadn’t moved, even though I think he had).
I’m also determined to try to be better this time around but it is so so so hard!
No real advice, just wanted to say you’re not alone 🩷

I don't have any words of advice other than to say I completely hear you because I'm going through the same thing at the moment. How often did you go to triage Katie? I'm nervous to over call them. I've been once so far and they were very reassuring to call whenever I need too. ❤️

Just stop tracking it. I’ve never once tracked it. Don’t listen to other people when they say you HAVE to track. You don’t.

Never once been to triage or called them either. If she has a day where she moves less, she’s usually fine the next day.

don’t worry about over calling them, they’d always rather see you and reassure you. In my last pregnancy I probably went at least 6 times from around 26 weeks to when I gave birth. He was always fine and they were happy I was there but a few days before my due date I went again and they said let’s just get him out because of how many times you’ve come x

I mean I feel like that’s way overkill. If baby hasn’t moved in a few hours just shake your stomach so much that it does move or eat some chocolate, that wakes them up too.

I feel like you’re being a bit rude and insensitive to people who have clearly stated they’re anxious. Also this is your first pregnancy and you’re 26 weeks…so you have no idea, they’re not even supposed to have a pattern at this point.

My baby ended up being very big yet I was measuring around 5 weeks behind, so he’d basically ran out of space, which is why he wasn’t moving as much as you’d expect.

Also I obviously tried everything you suggested at the time and it didn’t work, it wasn’t just I hadn’t felt him for hours, it was that I hadn’t felt him for an entire day/night.

I’d also like to add that I’m a nurse so not exactly clueless when it comes to things like that. The recommendations are also not to try things to get them to purposefully move like drinking a cold drink or eat something sweet as it can mask if something really is wrong.

Thanks everyone - I know it’s easier said than done and I am trying really hard to stay as calm as possible. I’ve had 2 really bad wobbles in the last few weeks where I’ve been so anxious I’ve thrown up with worry.

Hopefully these next 3 months go super quickly and I’m sure everything will be perfect, it’s just so hard to remind myself of that in the moment! We’ve got this and our babies will be in our arms before we know it 💓

I know the feeling, I keep getting the worry kick in too. Good thing this time is i have a toddler so rarely sit down which means I just don't have time to think about it as much, when he's gone to bed though I'm poking away to just check in on baby!
Absolutely if your worried at any point go to get checked, they would always rather see you and everything is okay then the other option.
