Hi mamas! I'm currently 27+6 weeks pregnant and had my midwife appointment today here in the UK. She measured my fundal height (with the tape measure across the bump) and said I'm measuring at the 97th percentile 😳
This is my first pregnancy, and everything has gone really well so far — both my 12- and 20-week scans were totally normal and healthy. But today she said that based on the bump measurement, my baby girl (Daniela 💗) is measuring bigger than average for her gestation.
The midwife told me not to worry, that it could be due to the baby’s position, fluid, or even just my body type (I’m plus-size). Still, it left me wondering...
Has anyone else measured on the higher percentiles like this?
Was it your first baby too?
Did your baby end up being big?
Were you sent for a growth scan?
Was it different in later pregnancies?
Would really love to hear your experiences! 🙏💗

Cry’s in 6th percentile 😅😅

I just so confused 😂 but I am getting a scan in this days 🫣

Based on bump is very much a guess because baby could be small and you could be full of water. I’d wait for the scans and a consultation before worrying about anything!

My baby also measured on the 99th centile on my 28 week check!! I’m only 5ft 1 and my first baby was a very healthy 7lb 14 when she was born so I was also very worried!! But my midwife has also said this is normal and nothing to worry about! I haven’t been referred for any growth scans x

I don’t think fundal measurements mean anything. It doesn’t mean the baby will be tall or heavy cause how would you measure their size from the outside of the bump even if the scans are inaccurate 🥴
Sometimes they’ll refer you for an extra scan but honestly I wouldn’t worry about it.
Both my friend and I were pregnant at the same time last time and both measured small, she was sent for an extra scan completely average, I was told my son will be big and both babies were born completely average weight, mine was 7lb9oz and hers a couple oz smaller.

Yes i am 93rd rn. With my first i was 95/96. They said i should get induced. I said no.
My baby wasnt big she came 5 weeks early. 6lb 5.
I went for 3 growth scans
Tbh after 20 weeks.. everything is guesswork unless its a blood test.
I have a very old Irish midwife who tells me all the time "lets be honest at this point we dont know anything until they get here. We have done our best. You had your screenings.. but now its just a waiting game"
Which MAY sound terrifying but for me thats comforting. Because what I dont like is when they make u stress about what they THINK and then they come out and they arent large at all. Or things change and you panic for no reason.
My nephew (other halfs brothers son) however.. was 9lb something.. so they got that correct!
It really all depends girlie dont stress

My little boy was mesuring on 90th percentile both fundal and on growth scans, came out on 10th percentile. Take it with a pinch of salt x

Thanks you everyone is my first baby I am 38 been long journey to get here is why 🫣 but thank you so much 🙏🏽❣️

Mine is I’m worried however I also don’t feel like she measured me properly and it is only your bump after all! Course I’m worried he’s big but there’s plenty of people on here who have had big bumps and normal sized babies 💗

My bump was big with my first. And she was a large baby. 8lb 13oz at 39 weeks gestation. But the measurements can be inaccurate. Especially just the bump one as it can be how your placenta is or fluid etc.

My bump was small but was having growth scans for numerous reasons with my first. He was big in his growth scans and was born 4 days past his due date weighing 9lbs 9oz I had a big placenta and extra amniotic fluid but if it wasn’t for the growth scans (to do with clubfoot and chicken pox) I would have never of known, I think everyone is different of all different shapes and sizes and bump measurements don’t mean much, I never had them done as in that area they don’t measure because of inaccuracy

Don’t worry, I was told with growth scans my son was on the 100th percentile and would be 10lb plus when he was born and he was just over 8lbs….pregnant with my second and my fundal height is over 100th (4 weeks ahead) but I’m not remotely worried as these things are widely inaccurate (both FH measurement and even the scans)

oh wow thank you ❣️ it's my first baby as I said 🫣 so I didn't know how to feel 🤣 but is my little girl is happy and healthy is all matter 😊

I hope everything goes well for you and congratulations. I was terrified of having a big baby but I delivered him naturally with no pain relief and in 5 hours, no tears or stitches and everyone I know who has had bigger babies have had amazing deliveries xx

My first baby measured average and was 10lb 4, this one is 98th percentile and not even going to worry. They’re so infamously inaccurate you’ll be fine. Even if they are a big baby’s so what ? I’ve known 5lb babies to cause tears and I had not even a graze with my whopper xx

How do they know? I had my 27-28 week midwife appt too but they didn’t mention anything however they did measure and write something in the fundal chart paper. Does anyone know how to read it?

like any other graph. Look at the cross or dot they made go up from bottom then go from left to right.
There shud be a key on the bottom right and the lines differ depending on percentile. It rly isnt a massive factor tho x

If u cant work it out ask next time
