Need advice for baby peeing through diaper

Hi. I have a 3 week old, we’ve been cloth diapering since birth. We have the ALVABABY Newborn Cloth Diapers. He is peeing so much. In just 2 hours overnight, he peed so much that it soaked through the liner, diaper, swaddle, and made it on the bed sheet.

Please give any tips you have for baby soaking through diaper.

How many inserts are you using?

Also alvababy comes with one microfiber and they are not very absorbent plus cloth 3 hours is normally a max anyway especially with 1 insert and sometimes closer to 2 hours if they are a big pee-er

Is your baby still in newborn diapers?
This could also be the time to swap to bigger ones the resizable ones

Mine got big fast and I think we switched fairly soon after newborn stage and started using two inserts especially for overnight

Also check the fit for any leg gaps/any of the insert peeking out they could just have a gap and leaked through or wicked to the other materials

I also use Alvababy brand cloth diaper pockets. I use two inserts during the day and that gets me three ish hours.
But for night you should try an insert with cotton hemp mix. More layers like Texas tushies and essmably has a 6 layer inserts good for night.

Agree about the bamboo or hemp as well they are a bit more pricey but hold a ton more

Even the cotton inserts can hold a ton or you can bulk with a flour sack towel for a really cheap cotton option (we still sometimes bulk ours with prefolds and they can be used as burp cloths/cleaning cloths too!)

And we still actually use our alva micros but in tangent with one that absorbs more (cotton or bamboo)

thanks! I was using only 1 insert inside the pocket of the diaper and a disposable liner on top (for poop).

Yes, he’s still using newborn, he’s only 7 pounds; he’s lean and long.

There was definitely gaps around his legs, we were afraid of doing it too tight. We’re going to try double liners and tighten it more.

are the liners you’re talking about ?

no, we’re only using the inserts that came with the packs of diapers. He sleeps 1.5-2 hours overnight and 2-3 during the day. We’re changing him every 2.

Could you add the link to the hemp inserts that you recommend?

Agree with everyone else about microfiber, you will find it holds stink and stains the worst too. We've been dealing with a newborn out-wetting his constantly too, unlike our first two. Sizing up helped, but for a bit we were at an awkward stage where our Thirsties Duo Size Ones were still a bit too big to be snug around the waist, but the x-small was too small for the next size of prefold.

Probably going to try wool again for night at least. We used Disana covers with our second, but only at night when he was bigger.

Self settling

Any tips or advice of how to teach 6.5month old to self settle? I’m up multiple times in the night to cuddle her back to sleep and put the dummy in. I understand she will wake up and want a cuddle etc but any tips on self settling would be appreciated 🥰

Hi ya'll

Is anyone else's 4 month old randomly screeching now? I'm not sure what to do and she's been doing this for the past two days. She's usually a quiet happy baby so im not sure why she's doing this now. Aby suggestions?

Baby losing weight

Hi all, it's been a long time since I had a baby (my son is 15!). My daughter is 10 days old and was 9lb born, she has since lost weight at every appointment and is at a 12% loss. I am breast feeding every two hours for over an hour and topping her up every feed. I pump and can get 60ml in 10 minutes so I know my supply is okay. Anyone had this before? Can give me some tips? I currently feel like I'm letting my baby down.

Breastfeeding

Does it ever feel better? The actual feeding part of it is going really well and baby boy is growing so well. I’m struggling with how my boobs feel day to day - it’s really getting me down most days. The let downs make me feel awful and sounds silly but, I am also really missing not wearing a bra! 9 weeks postpartum and still getting fairly engorged, even with comfort pumping.

Any advice or just shared stories would help. I’m so torn between carrying on because I enjoy the feeding side of it or switching to formula.

Help! First time mum -

I have a 4 month old and now all of a sudden when he’s been asleep for 1hr30/2hrs he will wake up screaming (high pitched) I’ve tried winding him sometimes that helps, I’ve tried bicycle legs & bringing his knees up but that doesn’t seem to help but he brings his knees up himself sometimes but nothing happens. I’ve noticed since the 4 month mark he has started to struggle passing wind downwards! Any tips?
