Punishment in marriage

My husband punishes me by withholding affection and giving me the silent treatment when he's mad at me. The problem is my brain is going a million miles an hour i do everything and I forgot to get the mail for him and he's mad at me. I apologized and he says it doesn't mean anything because I forget things like this all the time even when he says it multiple times. I feel like I'm constantly doing everything anyway so when I forget things I feel like my mind is just crazy so I can't control it. I wish he understood. How can I fix it or how can I help him understand that I can't handle the punishment

He's mad at you because you forgot to get the mail? This sounds a bit like emotional abuse or something..punishing you by withholding affection and giving you the silent treatment. Getting mad at you for something small like forgetting to get the mail. I'm sorry you're going through this. If you're able to see a therapist/counselor that might be a good idea.

Daaammm this is emotional abuse at its peak. I'm so sorry Ure going through this.. You do not deserve this. Anyone cud forget anything, it is not a defining factor for any one.Ure worthy, enough and amazing!! Their behavior is not a reflection of your worth. It is a reflection of his emotional immaturity. On that note, u may need to have open communication with him on this, if he persist u need to seek help for domestic help line or contact ur GP on this. Have a great day🤍

@Skye we've been seeing a counselor things have been kind of rocky like this for a long time. Our next session is on Wednesday and we've only done one. But he hates talking about his feelings. It's so hard. he says, it's because I constantly am forgetting stuff. But um, I take care of the baby while he plays video games all day when we're both home. So yeah, am I forgetting things, or do I just have too much on my plate? You know?

@Yvonne thanks. I feel like if I told him that this is classified as emotional abuse. He would think I'm being dramatic. I tried to explain to him today that if he said he forgive me, I'd appreciate a hug or something. But he said when he's mad at me, he doesn't feel in the mood to do things like that. But it would make me feel better so I don't know why he would do it unless he was still mad. He's always mad at the little things and doesn't realize I do so much.

He sounds like a child, playing video games while you watch the baby all day. That's not fair to you at all. I'd say you have too much on your plate. Instead of getting mad at you for forgetting things, he should be trying to figure out why you're forgetting things and making life easier for you. I really hope counselling helps you guys. I'd never accept this type of behavior from my partner.

I'm debating just being done. He treats me like garbage

that’s emotional abuse. he sounds like an ass and you deserve way better than him

@Izzie its hard leaving someone you still love though

Avatar

i’m sure it is, but someone who truly loves you and cares about you wouldn’t treat you that way! i hope things get better for you

Please leave. He won’t change, it won’t get better, and you will regret not leaving sooner. This is definitely abuse, it’s deliberate, and it’s incredibly immature and lacking compassion. Therapy only works when someone can see their contribution and it doesn’t sound like your husband can at all.

its just so hard for me to convince myself to leave...

What is making the decision the most challenging?

that i still love him. And I planned a while life with him

Autism

I have been noticing everyone I know that as a boy 2-5 years has been diagnosed with autism. Has anyone else noticed this or maybe I’m just noticing this out of concern for my 10 month old boy.

How do you cosleep?

I know all about sleep safe 7, the dangers of cosleeping etc etc, but there seems to be a huge difference between online and people I meet in real life. Most people I know report cosleeping, but online its villainised more.
No judgement here - I'm just genuinely curious what people are actually doing!

Comments if its something different.

Our baby has her own cot. She sleeps well in it until early morning and then only sleeps if shes on/next to me. I'll also admit to having fallen asleep breastfeeding several times (no lectures, she's safe - but other people have said they've done the same).

How often is your baby waking up in the night?

My baby is 5 months old and waking up every 3 hours. Some nights he could do a 4 hour stretch and some he would do just 2. It’s a bit all over the place to be honest. Is it normal for so many wake ups at this age? What is everyone else’s baby doing?

Swing or bassinet

We've been co-sleeping/bed-sharing with our one month old (5 weeks tomorrow) since she and I came home from the hospital. While I love the cuddles I do want our bed back too. I will add too, that we try to make it as safe as possible and want her in a safe situation. She doesn't like sleeping by herself, however we've been putting her in her swing (pic below) close to daily, since she came home and at first she only liked it for a few minutes, now it could be an hour, before she protests, asleep or awake! She likes the music and rocking motion it seems and seems fascinated by the mobile when she's awake and not sleepy. We can probably get her used to the bassinet in a similar way, but I'm wondering if we should just get two of these? My husband says the music would drive him crazy, lol, but we could just do it with white noise and see if it has the same effect. He's saying it's probably good for her to learn how to sleep in different conditions. I do agree, as our older daughter can't take naps at friends' houses and stuff. Just not sure of the best route here. Anyway tia!
