UC appointments
I normally always attend as I don’t have a problem attending. Last night I woke up at 3am, I was throwing up and had diarrhoea. I didn’t get back to sleep until 7am because of the pain and discomfort. I assume it’s a tummy bug, I’m still feeling rotten this morning and have a headache from lack of sleep. I wrote to my work coach at 4am telling her I was unwell and I wouldn’t be able to make the next appointment and it’s really bad timing but I’m on holiday for 2 weeks from the 5th. I told her this and asked to have an appointment when I was back. She can also see the time that I wrote on the journal.
She has written back “unfortunately failure to attend will affect your payments”. How is that allowed? It isn’t my fault I’m unwell and I would have happily come in when I’m back or even had a telephone appointment when I will be on holiday. I’m so upset right now, are they allowed to take money away if you’ve got a valid reason for not coming to the appointment?

That's weird, my payments have never been affected, they are fine if I say beforehand. It might just be an automatic reply? And when a person can actually read it they'll understand
For future reference I would always phone x
I've just got a job which I start tomorrow but I've had to cancel appointments before with them and as long as you give them enough notice, it's fine. This has never happened to me
Yes, they are allowed to sanction you if you don't attend your appointments. It's tax payer money so they can put in whatever rules they wish.
Whilst your illness may be a valid reason for not attending today's appointment, it sounds like they don't view your 2 week holiday as a valid reason to delay your UC appointment without sanctions.
Unfortunately they get to make the rules, and can sanction you if they feel it necessary. I got sanction because they'd changed my appointment time last minute and I physically couldn't get there on time.
I think you’re right to not go, nobody wants somebody with a stomach bug going out into public and risking the spread! Can you ring and explain this?
it’s not automatic because my work coach wrote it. But I’m starting to feel like my work coach is lying about things and spreading misinformation as she keeps doing it about other things as well
yeah I usually do give enough notice but I wasn’t expecting to be so ill. I thought I was just having an off day
my work coach has known about my holiday and has been fine with other holiday’s in the past. This one has been booked for a while and I gave enough notice
that’s so ridiculous I’m sorry that happened to you. They always change my appointments too even when I’ve got things booked in and had to cancel. Even doctors appointments that were urgent they told me I had to cancel because the UC appointment is far more important
I was going to ring up but after my work coach said that they changed my appointment to after my holiday so I don’t understand what the fuss was for in the first place
I would go to the appointment with a sick bag in your hand and make a point of throwing up in front of the person
