Really feeling that burden of working-mum life this week with a sick boy and the mounting pressure of deadlines. Of course I know he and I are most important but I can’t help the niggling thoughts that this is bad for me work-wise :(

I know exactly how you feel, am in the same boat this week 😪 its tough, knowing they're number 1 but having that devil on your shoulder reminding you of all the things that aren't getting done. I keep trying to remind myself that my job ticked over for a year while I was on mat leave so im sure there's people there that can step in while were having home problems 😪 hope your little one is feeling better soon and you can crack on with work 😔

In the same boat, are you full time?
I do only two days a week but had to take Monday off as he’s really unwell. My manager wasn’t happy which is super annoying, she also keeps saying ‘need you properly back at work to take pressure off the team’ and it’s like.. am I not part of the team? lol as if me going off for a year was such an annoyance.
But honestly I’m trying not to care so much about deadlines / workload. Little one comes first and if he’s not well I won’t focus at work anyway!
Hope things get better for you, I know we need our jobs to pay for things but life is too short to stress over things out of your control. It’s just a job, you can only do your best with what you’ve got ❤️

Yeah it's so tough wanting to give work 100% but ultimately little one comes first the guilt is endless

Have to say so far I’m finding it a bit bizarre having to like suddenly switch into work mode and pretend like I don’t have a kid whilst I’m at work, I keep getting asked to do extra stuff last minute at work like it’s no big deal and all I can say is “no… because I have a small child?” 🥲
Have to keep remembering that we have done - and are still doing - something absolutely massive raising a kid AND now we’re working at the same time (at least I find it massive 😅) I hope your workplace isn’t making you feel guilty for putting you and your little one first because the fact is that you need to 💜

I also worry about the long-term impact it could have on me. Working, and my job, is really important to me and it’s taken me a long time to be happy and thriving in a job. I didn’t expect to have a baby at my age and while I 100% count him as a blessing, it’s certainly a bit of a headf***k trying to realign priorities!

I’m full time which suits us but potentially something to reconsider in due course. That’s really sad your manager is putting emotional pressure on you like that, and yes, you are definitely part of the team! Hope your baby is feeling better soon.

I’m lucky I have an amazing team and manager but I suppose it’s just the pressure I’m putting on myself to perform at work. I know it’s silly but I just feel sad that I’m having to use leave for his sickness and at some point I might actually need some leave for myself 😆.

I was shocked at how quickly I was able to go into work mode but it helps that my boy is at an amazing nursery where’s he so happy and it’s definitely the best place for him! I was initially feeling bad for having to leave early to collect him but I’m 40 now and have spent my whole working life so far being available when my parent colleagues weren’t so it doesn’t bother me anymore 🤣

💯

that’s quite lucky I couldn’t get full time with nursery so made my peace
But decided I didn’t want him there full time tbh but I think it’s amazing you are doing it all! x I hope everything works out
