Home birth with sibling.. advice

Hey.. anyone else had a planned home birth with the older sibling there? Any tips and advice to help sibling to understand. My oldest is nearly 4 and this will be my 2nd planned home birth (hopefully). My mother in law will be on call to help with my LO but just curious if anyone has any advice to help prepare her. Thanks x

I recently had a home birth but went into labour overnight so my eldest slept through it! We had my MIL come over in the morning whilst we cleaned up and I was stitched to give her breakfast and keep her upstairs until we were ready for her to meet her sister. Tbh we didn’t say much as we had planned that she wouldn’t be there if I had gone into labour during the day. Once I had given birth we explained that the midwives had come and helped mummy to have a baby then they tidied up and went home 🙈 do you have any photos from your first homebirth? I showed these to my eldest just incase she was there for a small amount of time. Hope all goes well! X

thank you so much for sharing your experience.. it has made me feel a bit more at ease. The original plan was for my eldest to go to MIL but her house renovations have been delayed so it’s likely my eldest will be here especially in the day time. I am going to ask my MIL to try and keep her out and about or if home distracted/occupied. Although my eldest has already said she wants to be here and involved so we will see 😂🙈 x

My daughter was 3.5 at my homebirth and we'd read books together to prepare her for it, and talked to her about noises mummy might make, and little jobs she can do like passing mummy her water, how she can say "good job mummy" etc if she wants to, or how we'll have a new toy for her to play with if she wants to do that instead.... She ended up sleeping through the whole thing 😄 (and I wasn't quiet either!!)

thank you so much for sharing. Sounds like some good ideas especially giving her jobs to do, she loves having responsibilities and she wants to be involved if she can so this will help. She has been role playing a lot with her baby dolls recently so I’ve been using that as a chance to have conversations with her about what it might be like. Only thing I haven’t done yet is to read some books about home birth with her. Haven’t got long left but might try and order one or two before baby comes xx thanks again xx

Hospital bag (UK)

What did everyone pack for their section? I'm staying in for 3 days due to mental health, not really sure what I'll need to bring, feeling very nervous. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Pregnancy after c section

What time scale did everyone get pregnant again after a c section?
I know the doc said they recommend eating at least a year to 18 months but it took 4 years to get pregnant the first time after being told we could not conceive naturally so not wanting to stop it happening knowing it could take a very long time again but also worried.

Labour

Think im a bit confused really, i went into traige as was having contractions eveey 3-5mins. Since being here im now having them every 2-3mins which was confirmed with the machine and i think the toco was 90-100 and they feel painful and my lower back is in loads of pain but apparently im only just over 2cm dilated maybe, she has said i can stay here for a bit longer to see if things progress as had a previous quick birth as well but i dont understand why the pains are coming this quick if im only 2cm dilated and feel a bit deflated from it also.

I had a sweep this morning also.

C section trauma ?

Is it a thing to be traumatised by a c section delivery? I’m 4 weeks pp after having an emergency c section. I won’t go into the ins and outs to what got me there 😂
Nothing went wrong in the surgery at all, it was just incredibly intense, overwhelming and scary, but luckily my baby was delivered safe!
However I’m finding my birth experience quite difficult to even think about and when I do, I feel a horrid gut wrenching feeling, my heart aches and I just uncontrollably cry! My body feels really alien to me, like it’s not my own and I just feel really let down.
