Hi mums, has anyone else heard that driving before you are cleared by a GP can void your insurance?😬
I am 3wks post section and feeling good. I want to get out more with my baby but as I live in a small village, I need my car!
I have an appt tomorrow at the GP for them to check me over but my insurers said I need to call the DVLA and do a telephone assessment with them to ensure they are aware.
Did anyone ignore this and drive anyway or did you wait?

I haven't heard of having to contact the DVLA. My insurance just states I have to be signed as fit to drive by a doctor, although they don't need to see the note I assume if anything was to happen as I didn't have the note my insurance would be void and they wouldn't pay out.

I’m going to have to drive from Friday as my partner is going back to work and my son needs to get to and from nursery I’ll be 4 weeks post c-section at that point but I did also do a little trip to the shop last night for an emergency bread situation for my sons lunch as my partner couldn’t drive as he’d had a couple beers.

It seems all insurance companies are different. Mine were like as long as your GP is happy and there's no reason to notify DVLA which from what I researched there wasn't unless you had a long term health condition I was fine to drive when I was ready. Main thing is to check you feel comfortable and can perform an emergency stop.
okay it was fake news from an agent who did not check fully, I called back and someone has confirmed it is just a GP to confirm fit to drive.
For my mental health I do hope I get cleared, the village i live in is all incline so walking with a pram would do more damage than getting in a car
i’ve done 4 journeys total until i heard insurance is void. one of these journeys included an emergency stop due to a pesky car mat trying to lodge under my pedals.

If you've got the GP Monday then not too long to wait. I'm sure they will say if you are fit and comfortable with it you're fine. That's what my GP said to me. I was more strict with it because I'd had some minor complications after my surgery.

From my insurance company I needed to be signed off for driving as it made my insurance N/A should I of had a accident. My friends have all had the same

The 6 weeks are essentially to ensure that you can safely do an emergency stop without it risking reopening the incision.

My insurance said there wasn't a specified time I had to wait nor did I need Dr sign off. I drove at about 3 weeks

I drove after 2 weeks - doctors won’t ’sign you off’ before you check up and I’ve heard it’s more about if you can do an emergency stop
I have an electric (auto) so it’s like driving a go kart and I definitely could have drove sooner
Hi all, to anyone who is interested. The doctor carried out a physical check and blood pressure, clarified based on current progress of healing they are happy to say I am OK to drive and my personal opinion of feeling well enough.
With this appointment on the system and records of what the doctor said, my insurance (aviva) put a note on my policy and agree my policy will remain active should i be involved in an accident before official clearance at 6wks
