Baby measuring small at 20 weeks scan

Has anybody had their 20 weeks scan and been told that baby is measuring small? I should have been 20 weeks exactly and baby was measuring 18+4. They said it’s small overall and body parts were all in proportion for being small. I’m being referred to foetal medicine Monday and so worried. She said it still falls within the ‘normal’ category.

My both my babies are small this one I’m currently carrying is in the 22 percentile but girl if u see me im small 😂😂 and short and boney so I don’t know what they were expecting

Avatar

Did they check your placenta and send you for extra scans?

Avatar

I was told the same thing but they told me it still falls within normal range so not worried. They didn’t refer me to foetal medicine or required extra scans

Avatar

yes and no , they recommend me to eat more protein and scheduled me another ultrasound specifically to check the baby weight and stuff again

Avatar

have you since had a scan to check growth? x

Avatar

yes but outside uk in a private hospital cause NHS wouldn’t offer me anymore. In the next scan baby had grown a bit more than last time and the gynecologists said there’s nothing to worry about. The next one I have is at 34 weeks but I can’t wait till then so I think I am going to have another check in a private clinic 🙈. I am a bit worried how the growth is going

I’ve had a small baby before so I have to take aspirin until 36 weeks. Have they not recommended that? If your baby is in the normal range then I wouldn’t worry. I spent my last pregnancy worrying due to them and my little one was perfect x

Avatar

no they haven’t mentioned this yet. I think it’s a week and two days behind where it should be. I had read you can take aspirin. It’s a rainbow baby, so I think I’m just so anxious when they say anything that potentially could be worrying! c

Avatar

I completely get this, my last baby was my rainbow baby and at 20 week scan she was diagnosed with ventriculomegaly and it ruined my pregnancy with offers of termination up until the day I gave birth. So I completely get it. Did you EDD change or be off from your own dates?xx

Avatar

well.. I struggled to fall pregnant and my periods were all over the place so maybe. It’s a possibility. I’m off to foetal medicine Monday for a scan so should know more then x

Avatar

it’s changed from the 11th to the 10th to the 7th based on early scans and 12 week scan x

Avatar

please let me know how you get on. I personally think your little one will be absolutely perfect and fine ❤️ my due date has changed from 14th to 10th which is crazy as I only did it once and got caught out 🫣 xx

Avatar

Of course I will! Oh bless you! Thank you for being so lovely xx

Avatar

is your foetal medicine appointment tomorrow? Sorry for asking just been thinking of you but these posts don’t have dates on and days/weeks roll into one xx

Avatar

No I had it last Monday. We measured on the 7th percentile. They told me 95% small baby or placenta problem. 1-2% chromosomal and was offered the amniocentesis which I declined. Got to go back in four weeks. Been so upset and worried all week, trying to stay positive x

Avatar

I declined amniocentesis and let them do genetics when she was born. I wasn’t risking anything. It’s good they’re keeping and eye on bubba, it’s so easy for people to say try not to worry but it’s so hard not to and makes it harder when it’s your rainbow baby (as my last baby under foetal medicine) was my rainbow baby.
So is it just baby is measuring small? Is placenta etc all fine and no abnormalities…xx

Avatar

They said currently my placenta is working fine, but they will keep an eye. Everything else looks good, all long bones good and all organs healthy. So it would appear that hopefully it is just overall small?

Avatar

that is so reassuring for you. I think your bubba will be just perfect. I’m always around if you want to message xx

Avatar

How did the genetic testing going with your daughter? Thank you, it’s just the waiting for the next scan! x

all came back normal xx

C section or natural?

I am a control freak and thinking c section is the least stressful route for me and baby… less complications during labour etc. whilst acknowledging recovering can be hard.
If it could be guaranteed no tearing or complications then I would opt for natural and kind of want to experience the feeling.
Then again could plan and go either way 😂 arghh!
Anyone else in this predicament?

Period like cramps

Hi
I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant and I keep getting period like cramps I thought these were Brixton hicks but I’ve heard they only last 30 seconds ish as this can go on for a good time frame then go away and come back, they aren’t bad enough where I can’t do basic things they just feel like I’m about to get my period I’m jus wondering how normal this is? Baby is still very actively kicking xx

Homebirth?

I am thinking I want a homebirth (second baby) for a few different reasons but my husband is very against it, he is worried about things going wrong and we are a 30 minute drive from the hospital. Has anyone been in a similar position and what did you end up doing? Any advice? 🙏

Midwife check

Can someone remind me when the midwife visits you at home? Is it the day after you’re discharged? And is that the same on the weekend or do they not visit then? Thanks!
