Did anyone else’s epidural wear off during their c-section?
it started off okay and I could only feel pressure/tugging sensations but no pain since I was so numb. But halfway through, it quickly changed and i felt SO much pain. I remember crying so hard and having the worst panic attack begging them to up the dosage (which they did and acted fast). It honestly wad the worst feeling I’ve ever felt. But the second my daughter came out and hearing her cry everything else pretty faded. I’m 3 weeks pp now.

Mine didn't wear off during the actual c section it's self but as soon as they closed me up I could feel everything I was in so much pain I was sick , couldn't hold baby and passed out don't remember much else now

I felt when they were cutting into me they upped my dose and I requested to be put to sleep once baby was born I woke up once they had closed me up

You should have gotten the spinal tap not the epidural. The spinal tap is way stronger.

It worn off when I had my section, started feeling sharp pains!

I got a spinal done with my c section and I didn’t feel anything at all, I think maybe after an hour after I had my baby is when I started getting feeling again.

oh thank you for that I actually didn’t realize there was a difference.

ugh so scary. Definitely a feeling I’d never wish on anyone else, too. I’m sorry you had that happen

They do tell you that you will feel some pressure as they remove the baby and your placenta mine was different this time around bc I got my tubes removed I could feel it all but without a whole lot pain if that makes sense like they were pulling pushing tugging all that it hurt a tiny bit at the end but my pain tolerance to certain things is high like when they stuck the needing in my spine I freaked them out bc I was smiling and was still like a statue 😂

it's all good

Mines never wore off all I felt was the doctor stitching me up

weird thing is it hasn’t put me off having another one!

Me with my first.. I was put under general anaesthesia to finish off the procedure because I felt everything 🙃
I had an elective 10 days ago with my second, and it was so much better compared to the emergency c-section I had with my first. The spinal block was beautiful, and the surgery term was wonderful 🩵

it's actually a spinal block, not a spinal tap. A spinal tap is when they collect cerebrospinal fluid, such as to test for meningitis. And the only difference between an epidural and a spinal block is the dosage of medication, they convert epidurals to blocks all the time during c sections, which is I'm sure what they did if she only felt tugging in the beginning. Some people just metabolize anesthesia faster than others, hence why they needed to up the dose mid case.

Always ask for a spinal block. You won't feel a thing

my ob called it a spinal tap

My spinal blocker wore off like you but they couldn't get me numb again and i refused to be put to sleep (in my panic and pain filled head I thought I'd die if I was put to sleep) I have never felt pain like it and I've previously been through labour for 24 hours with failed epidurals. It was honestly harrowing, they tried injecting my open stomach with local to get me some what numb and nothing was working. Honestly the most painful and terrifying moments of my life. I do think I have trauma from it but my brains just been trying to suppress it

Mine didn’t wear off during the c section but when I was trying for vaginal it wore off 3 times. Also think they didn’t insert it correctly because one side was more numb than the other and I could physically feel the Dr threading it in my spine

My epidural didn’t work at all from the cut to getting baby out.

Yes, it was unfortunate and traumatic. After they pulled my baby out I think the surgeon must’ve started pulling on the placenta and I just remember blinding pain and screaming. They pumped me full of ketamine and morphine and gave me oxygen. After that I was extremely out of it and only started coming to when she was closing me up. The anesthesiologist said it was the first time they’d had a patient metabolize the epidural so fast. I’m sorry this happened to you too. It made my recovery really tough physically and emotionally but I made it through. I’m 11 weeks pp now and while breastfeeding didn’t go well due to the trauma I am doing great and so is my LO. I heard a full spinal block is much more effective so I’m going to opt for a scheduled C-section next time.
